Today is our 100th day of the year! Thank you to everyone who has stuck with the process and have joined us in our reading this year.
Today’s reading in Proverbs 6 has some great words of wisdom. My favorite passage is in verses 9-11, How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man. This passage applies to so much of our lives in regard to staying focused on the the task at hand. We can not afford to lose sight of what is important; whether it is our spiritual, physical, or emotional lives. All it takes is a moment of weakness to bring it all crashing down.
Yay for day 100! Didn’t think I’d make it this far, but I look forward to it every morning! Woot!
This verse spoke to me today, as well. Our lives are so focused on convenience and how little can we do and still get by. While there is definitely a balance that needs to be struck between work, play and rest, if we are living our lives to just get by, how abundant is that? Jesus came to bring abundant life, not a life where we are just trying to get by…whether that be just getting by financially, spiritually, physically, emotionally etc…He came to bring abundance. That doesn’t mean that we’ll be rich and never be sick again, but it’s a mindset shift. That shift in mindset brings joy and hope even when things aren’t so awesome. It’s a shift in mindset that gives you the ambition and gumption to go out and try something new because it’s a passion or because it’s a desire that God has placed in your heart. It’s a mindset change that allows you to always keep your options open, to constantly be looking around for opportunity for betterment or opportunity to serve someone or give to something. Doing just enough to get by is living in a scarcity mindset, a pessimistic mindset and a lazy one to boot! That’s no fun nor is it God’s original intent!
there is a lot here – lots of character qualities listed in every part of this chapter that a person should work on avoiding, and therefore defines qualities that a person should posses. I find myself taking inventory to see how many fo these negative qualities I posses or demonstrate in my life. Oh to have the strength to acknowledge them so I can replace them with the qualities that define a godly woman.
