2016 Day 84 – John 17

Healing, Hope, Humility, Love, Mercy

Today we read Jesus’ prayer to God just before the end of His ministry here on earth. As I read the prayer, I could not help feel a sense of honor that Jesus prayed for me and all future believers in the last part of His prayer. In John 17:20-21 Jesus specifically says, 20 My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also  be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. Jesus’ desire was that we all become one body of believers. There is power in unity. His desire was not for us to become a gang, but a loving and encouraging body that cares for each other and as a group can care for others in need. Our body of believers should form a hospital, not a country club. We are here for the sick, not the privileged. Let us always remember this.

Forgiveness, Healing

We look at physical healing as something difficult. It sometimes even requires a miracle. But the spiritual healing of your heart is even more difficult. And just like in physical healing where there are often scars, spiritual healing leaves scars as well. But when Jesus heals the sinful woman at the end of today’s chapter He says in Matthew 7:50, Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” Jesus wants all of us to live in peace. The kind of peace you can only find from miraculous healing. Our scars remain because of us, not Jesus. Trust in Him and accept His complete healing because He loves us regardless of the sin He has forgiven in our past.

Faith, Healing, Power, Trust

Today we read what the fuss was all about with the birth of Jesus Christ. While no one knew Jesus was the Messiah at the time, there was very little uncertainty about His power and willingness to help the needy. Mark 1:34 sums it up, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. Jesus not only healed, but He was strategic about it. He knew that once word got out about His power and willingness to help, it would be nearly impossible to move about freely. Later on we read how difficult it was for Jesus to move about, but it was His compassion and love that drove Him to the people to love and heal them.

Grace, Healing, Love, Mercy, Salvation

We are all sinners and just like people who struggle with addiction, the first step in recovery is to admit we have a problem. 1 John 1:8 says, If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. There is no greater deception than the deception we believe about ourselves. When we believe we are justified in sin, we not only lie to God, but we lie to ourselves. Once we realize how much we need God’s grace and mercy, we can then see how broken we are without the love of God, and this is when we begin to heal.

2015 Day 19 – Matthew 8

Faith, Healing, Trust

One of the most beautiful interaction Jesus had with the sick, in my opinion, was the one at the beginning of Matthew 8. The man with leprosy asks Jesus to heal him if He is willing and Jesus answers with a simple reply in verse 3, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man, “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cured of his leprosy. Jesus was so loving and willing to help anyone who had faith to believe in Him. The same applies to us today. When we believe in Jesus, anything is possible. We are not guaranteed anything will happen, but all things are possible.

Healing, Love, Peace

Jesus frees us from all our burdens, no matter how big or small. Things in this life that seem to have such a stronghold are insignificant in comparison to the purpose He has for each of us. Matthew 11:28-30 says, 28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. The “rest” that Jesus promises is love, healing and peace, but not the labor. The existence of a relationship with God changes a difficult life into one of spiritual fulfillment and purpose, not necessarily easy.

Compassion, Healing, Love

It is always so comforting to read about Jesus’ compassion and how willing He was to love and heal the brokenness in people. Mark 1:41 shows a great example of this, Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Just like the man with leprosy, Jesus never turns His back on any of us. He is always there standing by our side and never leaving us. We are the ones who fail to recognize His presence and willingness to be there for us.

Compassion, Healing, Hope

Jeremy Cowart is a world class photographer. I recently started following him on Twitter and a new iPhone app called OKDOTHIS he recently launched. A few days ago he Tweeted about a special moment he had with actor John Schneider (the original “Dukes of Hazard” and “Smallville”) during a photo shoot for a TV show. I was not prepared for what I was about to read. I hope you see why I think this was worth sharing. You never really know what is going in someone’s life at any moment. A Rare Connection: My Photo Shoot with John Schneider

From his website: “Jeremy is a Photographer, Entrepreneur and a Humanitarian. He founded a global photography movement called Help-Portrait and recently launched an iPhone App/Social Network called OKDOTHIS. His goal in life is to use his platform, ideas and creativity to inspire and help others in need. Read his official bio here.”

Blessings, Healing

This is a commercial produced by P&G. As I watched it I could not help but find a correlation to how God works in us. No matter how many times we fall, He is right there to pick us up and help us learn from each failure. He loves us and ultimately wants what is best for us.

Courage, Healing, Obedience

God never asked us to do anything specific in His name other than be obedient. For Peter, his obedience called for him to give all he had to the crippled man. In verse 6 it says, Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” While riches may provide means to serve God, the only thing He really asks of us is to trust in Him and give all He has provided us to give.
