Integrity

In today’s Psalm, Asaph goes over the history of Israel leading up to David as king. Israel made many mistakes and had plenty of lessons to learn. Psalm 78:1 says, O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. In the end, David became their ruler. And while he was far from perfect, his heart was in tune with God’s will. At the end of Asaph’s recollection of history, he says in Psalm 78:72, And David Shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them. God does not call for perfect leaders, He calls for leaders who are obedient to His perfect will.

Integrity, Righteousness

A righteous life is much better than a wealthy one. Proverbs 19:1 says: Better a poor man whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse. Do not sacrifice your integrity to gain the temporary satisfaction of wealth. A righteous life has a greater impact on eternity than money ever will.

Integrity, Love, Servant, Trust

In today’s reading, Paul talks about church leadership and what is required. The first verse sums it all up in 1 Timothy 3:1, Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. Church (people, not the building) leadership is a big responsibility because we serve as God’s representative. It is not a popularity contest. It requires strength of character, integrity, and most of all, a commitment to love others and serve God wholeheartedly.

Courage, Integrity, Obedience

I always love reading the story of Joseph. While I don’t think he handled his brothers in an honorable way, he was not lying when he talked about the future of his relationship with his brothers as it was revealed in his dream. Joseph was a man of integrity and honor, and while it sometimes got him into trouble, in the end, he was always willing to accept the consequences of doing what was right. Joseph is one of those men we can all model our lives after as long as we realize there are sometimes difficult choices we must make to maintain the level of character and integrity expected of us by God.
