Wisdom

We finished Ephesians yesterday after several month of leisurely study. I have been thinking about which book of the Bible I would like to study next and Ecclesiastes came to mind. The first time I read the book was while I was reading through the Bible in a year. When I came across this book, I was in awe by the overall theme Solomon was trying to convey to the reader, which is that life is meaningless apart from God. This coming from a man, a ruler, who by all accounts (and even in today’s dollar), would be considered the richest man to ever live. By some calculations Solomon would have been worth over $1.2 Trillion, $40 to $60 Billion in gold alone (depending where you place the value of gold at the time). Somehow, even this man, the wisest and richest among all men clearly states throughout the book of Ecclesiastes that everything is “Meaningless”. I hope to learn more about Solomon and hope to understand his perspective as a man who had everything, but realized all he really needed was God. I’ll begin this study on January 1, 2018.

Welcome to 2015!!!

01 Thursday Jan 2015

Welcome to 2015! This is the start of our 4th year reading daily in God’s Word. Each year we approach our reading a little differently. This year we will still read the New Testament, Proverbs, and some Psalms. And we will also continue with “reflection” posts on Sundays to give everyone a little break and allow people to catch up if they fall behind in their reading. The difference this year will be the order in which we read. We will start with the Gospels of Christ (after His birth) and then read through the Letters (we will not read the book of Revelation this year). We will then read proverbs and some Psalms. Finally we will finish the year with the Birth of Christ. The thought process for the new order is to better correlate our reading with Christmas and Easter.I will post a permanent link later today for the 2015 Bible Reading Plan.

May you all have a blessed New Year!

INFORMATION: Happy New Year

31 Tuesday Dec 2013

We finally made it through the entire Bible in a single year! This is a great accomplishment! I want to thank each of you who read along and shared your thoughts this past year. The comments were a blessing to me with a challenging perspective each time. It is my hope that you choose to continue reading in 2014 and maybe invite others to join this next year. Our new reading plan is the 2014 Bible Reading Plan, which was developed through a combination of the past two year’s plans. We will read 6 days a week with a reflection day each Sunday. We will cover the New Testament starting with the book of Acts and proceeding through it chronologically, except in regards to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, which we will cover at the end of the year leading up to Christmas. From the middle of July to the beginning of September we will take a short break from the New Testament to read the book of Proverbs and a few key Psalms. I will continue to post each day and will try to find videos or links for our reflection days. If you find anything interesting, please do not hesitate to share and I’ll be happy to post it.

Once again, thank you for joining us this past year. May you and your family have a blessed 2014!

Well, we finally made it and it was even a leap year! 366 days of reading through the New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs. I want to thank each of you who read along and shared your thoughts this past year. Each of you, who took the time to comment, blessed me with a new and challenging perspective each and every time. It is my hope that you choose to continue reading in 2013 and maybe invite others to join. Our new reading plan is The book-at-a-time Bible reading plan. I will continue to post each each day, but with the breaks that are built into the plan I will try to find other things such as videos or links to additional materials. If you find anything, please do not hesitate to share and I’ll be happy to post it.

Once again, thank you all for joining us this past year. May you and your family have a blessed 2013!

INFORMATION: Suggested Reading Plan for 2013

29 Saturday Dec 2012

Posted by Dino Evangelista in Information

For 2013, I have been contemplating what the reading plan could, or should be. One of the frustrations of trying to read the entire Bible in one year is there is very little room for falling behind. If you miss a day or two it can be very intimidating to catch up and feel like you can still make all the reading in one year.

In doing some research, I came across The book-at-a-time Bible reading plan. This plan provides two readings for each day, though you could read it all in one sitting. The first reading alternates between Old and New Testament books, giving you three or four chapters a day. The Gospels are spread throughout the year. The second reading takes you through a chapter or so of the wisdom literature and Isaiah. Combined, these readings will take us through the entire Bible in one year.

To prevent the frustration of falling behind and to provide some reflection time, each month consists of only 25 readings. You’ll have several days each month to meditate more deeply on something that was significant to you in the past week, to catch up on missed readings, or to revisit favorite passages. With this plan, there is room to catch up and there is also room for additional material throughout the month.

Let me know what you all think. It looks like there are some regular participants in our daily reading and I would love to hear your opinion on the suggested 2013 reading plan. As always, I would love to read daily comments on the daily readings throughout the year.

Congratulations everyone!! Today marks the official half-way mark for the year! While I know there are 366 days this year (Leap-year) and we are on day 181, psychologically the end of June marks our half-way point. Thank you to all who have participated in reading each day, and a special thank you to all the commenters who have provided fresh insight and a challenging perspective to me and the rest of the readers. Finally, a very special thank you to our #1 commenter, Sarah, who has provided rich content to our daily experience. Thanks again to everyone; let’s make the second half of the year even stronger!

Sorry about this, but I noticed our days were not in sync. I went back and saw that on Sunday, March 11th, I was a little eager and accidentally posted two (2) entries. So, today we are not posting anything new. We will be back on track tomorrow. Again, sorry I if I messed anyone up.
