Today’s Psalms were written by David during some very desperate times. I love how he turns his hopelessness to the one place he knows he will find relief. In verses 6 and 7 of chapter 142 it says, 6 Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me. 7 Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me. All David wants to do is to give God the glory for delivering him. How often do I pray to God to deliver me from a situation, then as soon as I am free I forget where it came from. It is only through a close relationship with God that I can know who is my provider and deliverer.
I love in Chapter 144:9 – O God, let me sing a new song to you,
let me play it on a twelve-string guitar
Not only does he know where his helpt comes from, who his rescuer is, he knows who can give him the power, strength and ability to praise God in the midst of horrendous circumstances. Isn’t that crazy? There are times in life where we have to ask God to give us the ability to love him, to cherish him, to praise him because we are so stuck in sadness, depression, anger, etc…and God does it every time. As much as David screwed things up in his life, he always knew that God was the source of absolutely everything for his life.
