I have read verse 7 a hundred times, but I am always amazed that God puts it in front of me when I need it most, Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. All I really need to know is God cares for me so much that He wants to know what is troubling me. He wants me to leave my troubles at His feet so He can take on the burden of carrying them for me. If He was willing to carry my sin, then everything else is simple for Him.
That verse always jumps out at me, too. And I always ask why this is such an issue for us. This is the conclusion I’ve come to:
Because we are made in his image, it is in our nature to want to carry our burdens, to carry the anxieties. But because we are a fallen image of him, we just can’t. I think this is why this is such a hard issue for many of us. The fall was the result of us wanting to be like God. This is one of the ways we can be like him: take care of it all! Be in charge! And then he gently reminds us that this is not our place.
I find it interesting that that verse is immediately followed by the verse telling us to be on guard against the enemy. Maybe I’m projecting or reading too much into this, but the only way to be on guard is to constantly be putting our worries, anxieties etc…at the feet of Jesus. It keeps us focused on him. It keeps us tuned into him. And when we are in tune with him, we are much more aware of what is happening spiritually around us. We are also unencumbered by the stuff we aren’t responsible for so that we can be responsible for the things God has actually asked us to be responsible for.
Hmmmm…seems to come back to.boundaries and understanding of the roles of each person in the relationship…. Never thought of it that way.
