Mark 8:35 is always a good reminder of what my priorities should be, For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. It does me no good to be concerned with self-preservation in this life, when the only life that matters is my life in eternity. As I start a new job today, this is a good nudge to remember my true purpose in this life. While I do not want to beat people with the gospel of Christ, I do need to be a reflection of Him in my life. I must keep Him in the front of my mind in all I do today and everyday.
I like how the CEV puts that same verse:
If you want to save your life, you will destroy it. But if you give up your life for me and for the good news, you will save it.
We are masters at destroying ourselves. One of those defective genes.
And here’s a little something for you for your new adventure from my 2 favorite translations:
2 Corinthians 2:14-15
Message:
In the Messiah, in Christ, God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade. Through us, he brings knowledge of Christ. Everywhere we go, people breathe in the exquisite fragrance. Because of Christ, we give off a sweet scent rising to God, which is recognized by those on the way of salvation—an aroma redolent with life.
NIV:
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15 For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
Christ is an exquisite fragrance, and exquisite fragrances just waft everywhere without you having to do anything but exist with the fragrance on you.
