2014 Day 355 – Clayton Jennings: Live Love

Love, Reflection

Jesus does not call us to judge others, but to love them by His example. Matthew 7:3 says, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” In this video, Clayton Jennings gives a compelling depiction of how Jesus calls us to deal with all sinners, not just those who sin differently than us. He calls us to LOVE them!

2014 Day 354 – Matthew 27

Crucifixion, Sacrifice, Salvation

Today’s reading is all about the crucifixion of Christ. There is so much in this chapter that it’s hard to focus on one thing. But what stood out to me was Matthew 27:38, Two robbers were crucified with Him, one on His right and one on His left. I am not sure if there is any symbolism to this, but to me it paints the picture of us with Jesus. When Jesus died on the cross, he did it for our salvation. It should have been us dying that horrible death, but He did it for us because He loved us. We are nothing more than common criminals and yet Jesus found us worth of being saved. We must never take that for granted.

Relationship, Salvation

We tend to make salvation into something difficult. But in John 17:3 Jesus makes it clear and simple, Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. It comes down to knowing God and having a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. It really is that simple.

Jesus, Peace, Protection

God knows the life we lead on this earth is not easy. But we can still have peace because we know His ultimate purpose. In John 16:33 Jesus tells His disciples, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Jesus does not abandon us to our struggles no matter how alone we may feel. Our peace does not come from an easy existence, but from a life with Jesus in our lives.

Love, Relationship

As believers we are meant to be connected to the Holy Spirit for continuous support, guidance, and love. In John 15:4 Jesus said, Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. Being in constant communion and contact with Jesus through the Holy Spirit is the most important thing in our lives; nothing else matters.

Glory, God, Relationship

Have any of you ever heard of “Name it and Claim it”? This is the idea that if we name something in the name of Jesus, He will give it to us. Many people substantiate this idea by claiming John 14:14, You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. The problem is they fail to read the previous verse, John 14:13, And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. It is important to know that Jesus will do anything we ask, not for our glory, but to bring glory to God The Father. When we ask God for help, are we asking for our own selfish gain? Or are we asking so that it may glorify Him and bring others to a personal relationship with Him? Our motives matter.

Salvation

Everything we need to know about Jesus’ love for us can be summed up in the second half of John 13:1, Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love. Jesus sacrifice all that He was as a perfect human being to show how much He loved us. Even through our filth, He still chose to love us and save us for eternity.

Reflection

We can’t change the world unless we are willing to allow God to change us first. The words of Tim Keller below reflect that.

Protection

Jesus did not come to this earth to do battle, but He knew that sometimes protection would be necessary to ensure the gospel could be spread. Luke 22: 36, He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.” In this passage Jesus reversed His previous instructions for going out because He knew the extent of persecution they would face.

Righteousness, Salvation

One of the things I loved about today’s reading was how bold Jesus was when He answered the high priest in Mark 14:62, “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Jesus was always direct and answered their questions, but they’re selfish ambitions and self-righteousness blinded them of the truth. May we never be filled with so much self-importance that we fail to see who we really are without Christ in us.
