Sacrifice, Salvation

Before Christ, there was a veil which separated the people from the Holy of Holies in the Tabernacle of the Temple  because only God was perfect enough to be there. Paul explains what changed when Christ came to provide redemption for sin in 2 Corinthians 3:16, But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Christ’s perfect sacrifice for all our sins removed the veil that separates us from God. Because of Christ we are no longer separated from God and we have direct access to Him.

Righteousness, Salvation

Because we are saved through Christ, 2 Corinthians 2:15 says we have the aroma of Christ, For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. There is a distinct contrast in the aroma of something fully alive and something dying. Weather it is fruit, vegetables, plants, or animals, you can smell the freshness or lack thereof. It is the same difference in the aroma we are to God when we are saved and active believers through Christ.

Hope

When Christ’s followers suffer, so does He. We will probably suffer as followers of Christ throughout our lives, but Christ never leaves us alone in our suffering. In 2 Corinthians 2:5 Paul says, For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. The second part of the verse is where our hope is. Our comfort comes from Christ who experiences the suffering with us. We were never promised a perfect life, but we were promised to never have to experience it alone.

Love

In today’s reading I love Paul’s simple command in 1 Corinthians 16:14, Do everything in love. If we focused on love as we serve the Kingdom of God, we can’t mess it up.

Protection

We are to influence this world and not be influenced by it. In 1 Corinthians 15:33 Paul says, Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” We are called to be in this world doing the will of God. However, we should be aware this world has the ability to impact and change us. Do not be deceived into thinking you can not be changed. If you are not constantly being influenced by good things, the bad will find a way.

Obedience, Peace

As Paul spoke about the order of speaking in tongues and prophesy, we come across 1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. This is very important to remember, not just in worship and in the use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but also in life as a believer. If we feel there is chaos around us, it is not from God. He is a God of peace. Chaos comes from disobedience and disorder, not from God who wants peace for us all.

Eternity

While there are many smart people, including Biblical scholars, no one knows it all. God reveals bits and pieces to us through study, but we won’t know everything until we see Him after our earthly life is over and eternity begins. In 1 Corinthians 13:12 Paul says it perfectly, Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. I love my time on this earth and I full expect to live each moment to the fullest. But I cannot wait to see Jesus face to face for the first time. It will be and amazing moment to say the least.

Gifts, Glory, Holy Spirit

As believers we recognize God has given each of us unique gifts to be used for His glory. In 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 Paul says, 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. While each of us may have different gifts, God is the same. The Holy Spirit works with each of our unique gifts to work together for God’s ultimate glory.

Righteousness

We must be honest with ourselves when it comes to sin in our lives. It is better if we judge ourselves for our shortcomings than allow others do it for us. In 1 Corinthians 11:31 Paul says, But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgement. Only God can truly judge us, but if we spend more of our time looking through the eyes of Christ at our level of righteousness, we would know where we fall short and work to improve it.
