Faith, Hope, Love, Trust

My apologies for not posting the last few days, but I am finally back. Today we are in Psalm 105. While this Psalm is a bit longer than the average, it speaks in detail about the history of Israel in relation to their time of captivity in Egypt and how God delivered them. This Psalm uses the remembrance of God’s mighty miracles for Israel to encourage us to trust in God and keep close to Him in both good and bad times. Psalm 105:1 says, Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known among the nations what he has done. Because of God’s ability and desire to deliver us, we need to share of His blessings with others to encourage them to look to God in their time of need. Praise God for loving us and delivering us.

Faith, Trust

In Psalm 104 the author takes time to carefully give God the glory for all of creation. He begins with Psalm 104:1, Praise the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. With all God has done through all creation, isn’t it possible that He is able to do a great work in us as individuals? Trust God with the great and small things. If He cares about the smallest creature, He certainly cares for you.

Forgiveness, Salvation

Because east and west can never meet, this is a symbolic portrait of God’s forgiveness of our sin. In Psalm 103:12 David says, As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Living according to past transgressions is unproductive and fixes nothing. In addition, God’s forgiveness of us is a model for how we are to forgive others. If we are truly believers and followers of God, we must forgive others as He has forgiven us.

faithfulness, Love

God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He will never change. In Psalm 102:27 the Psalmist ends the passage with, But you remain the same, and your years will never end. While we may change and make decisions based on our circumstances or feelings, God never changes. He will continue to love us and want what’s best for us no matter what.

Fellowship, Relationship

People who have influence over our lives matter. On rare occasion there are minor acquaintances who have minimal influence, but anyone who has access to us can be influential in how we live our lives and whether we live for God or for our selfish desires. In Psalm 101:6 David says, My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister with me. Friends and associates who have influence in our lives should be faithful to God and should help us grow closer to Him.

Love

Our assurance can always lie in God’s love for us. Whether we comprehend his plan for us or not, His plan is perfect and we should count ourselves blessed to be a part of it. Psalm 100:5 says, For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. God’s love never changes. It has remained the same through all generations and will endure through all eternity.

Father, God, Holy Spirit

God’s name symbolizes His nature and His character. In Psalm 99:3 it says, Let them praise your great and awesome name – He is holy. His holiness and His reputation as the one and perfect God is what His name is supposed to symbolize. If we are blessed enough to call Him Father, then let us live worthy of the Family name.

Grace, Love, Peace

The anticipation of the Messiah had been present for a long time. The people of God had to look forward to know He was coming and would provide salvation. In Psalm 98:1 it says, Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things; His right right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation for Him. When Christ came to earth and died for our sins, He fulfilled the anticipation the world had been waiting for. When we look for peace, love, and grace, we find it in Christ.

Love, Relationship, Truth

As we grow closer in our relationship with God, we learn to love what He loves and hate what He hates. Psalm 97:10 says, Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of His faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Let us learn to love God’s ways and hate evil in every form just as He does.

Matthew 27:27-55 – Good Friday

Crucifixion, Hope, Love, Salvation, Trust, Truth

Today is Good Friday and I always wondered why we refer to this day as “Good” since it was the day Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross. While historians debate many things about our faith, there are three things all historians agree on: 1) Jesus Christ really existed; 2) Jesus Christ was baptized; and 3) Jesus Christ was crucified. Christ’s crucifixion was an agonizing and torturous death. Matthew 27:50 says, And when Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. This was a brutal death and His suffering is hard to imagine. But when we take time to think through what Christ’s crucifixion represents and the transformation it has caused to the course of each of our lives, we realize it really was a “Good” day. Today reminds us that Jesus took on the sin of the world and died because of it. And more importantly, it is “Good” because Sunday is coming.
