Grace, Mercy

Sorry everyone, but I don’t have much to say about today’s reading. God’s impending judgement is coming. We don’t know when, but eventually He will have had enough. I am thankful that He loves me enough to show me grace and mercy through the sacrifice of His son Jesus Christ.

Salvation

Verse 10 says, And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” When sin comes into our lives we try a multitude of ways to get rid of the guilt. We try being good, intellectual pursuits, and we even blame others. The only true way to salvation and freedom from the effects of our sin is through Jesus Christ. Whether its today or at the end of time, Jesus is the only way to find freedom from sin. Know that He loves us and wants to cleanse us from our sin.

Hope, Protection

In today’s reading verse 15 jumped out at me, Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. In the end, it doesn’t matter if you are royalty, rich, slave, or free; every man and woman will know who really sits on the throne. I know that things will probably get worse before they get better, but God is and always will be in control.

Faith

Only God is worthy to be praised. Verse 12 says, In a loud voice they sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” When we feel all is lost and our lives feel out of control, remember that God is in control and only He is able to set the outcome of our future. Trust in Him because His plan is perfect!

Faith

The point of chapter 4 is summed up but verse 11, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” All creatures in heaven and earth are created to give honor and praise to God. He created and sustains everything and is worth.

Relationship

I love the sentiment behind verse 20, Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. This verse is important at any level of relationship with Christ. Whether you are someone who has never accepted Him or are a long time believer, Jesus does all the work. He is the one who comes to us and knocks on our door. He is the one to seek us out. It is simply our job to let Him into our lives and make ourselves available to build a relationship with Him.

Protection, Trust

In today’s reading I found verse 28 to have an interesting description, I will also give him the morning star. When I did some research it lead me to 2 Peter 1:19 which says, And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. The morning star refers to Christ. The morning star is the first light we see just before dawn when the world is at its coldest and darkest. Christ is the light that guides us out of the world when it is at its bleakest. Follow Him and He will lead you.

Power, Protection

So, today we begin the book of Revelation. I have to admit, while I find the book fascinating, I find it difficult to read and meditate on. Over the next several days, as we go through this book, my approach will mostly be an attempt to pull nuggets out of each day’s reading as opposed to broad sweeping prophetic interpretation. If anyone would like to comment on the prophecy being presented, please feel free to do so, but I will most likely keep it pretty simple.

In today’s reading, verse 8 was the major verse that stood out to me, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” There is great comfort (and maybe a little brain discomfort) in knowing that God has always been and always will be. God has been the ruler of the universe before our human history started and will continue to be the ruler into eternity. The fears and concerns over my future are temporary, knowing in the end God will continue to be in control.

Faith

I don’t have a lot to say about today’s reading other than an observation that God is the ultimate equalizer. When we think we are out gunned or out manned, God has the ability to equal our adversary. God is never too small or unable to help us. We must remember to stay in His will, but God has the ability to match any obstacle we come against. Lean on Him and rely on His strength to take care of you each day and He will take you where you need to be.

Salvation

This single chapter book is briefly addressing evil and negative influences in the early church. The passage that stood out the most to me is verse 11, Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God. Let us be imitators of what is good so that we can be the righteous reflection of God that brings others close to Him.
