This is such a beautiful rendition by Jimmy Needham of the song It is well with my soul, which was originally written by HoratioSpafford in 1873 in response to the loss of his four daughters and nearly losing his wife in a ship accident on their way to England. John Piper describes the story beautifully in the middle of the song.

Let us all try to have a little more gratitude today. Because of all Christ has done for us, we should have more to be grateful for than we could ever describe.

As many people know I lost my hero and my dad to cancer back in 2010. From the moment I realized he had cancer to the day he left this earth, I have had a heart for people and families who have had to deal with this terrible disease. Today, the world has lost another person I have grown to admire over the years. Stuart Scott, one of ESPN’s sportscasters, lost his 7 year battle with cancer. He was an inspiration to so many people. This past summer he was awarded the “Jimmy V Perseverance Award” at the 2014 ESPY Awards. I decided to share his speech here as an inspiration for both believers and non-believers alike in how we are called to live our lives on this earth… to the fullest!

As we approach the end of 2014, most people will review their accomplishments of this past year and plan for the next. The most important thing to remember is that it is never too late to start. It is never too late to strive for greatness. But greatness does not come easy. There will be struggle and obstacles along the way and it comes down to how we handle these obstacles that make a difference. We either stick to it and fight through the pain, or we give up.
A few of the best quotes from this video are, “Greatness is a lot of small things done well… day after day, workout after workout, obedience after obedience, day after day.” and “You will never be successful until you turn your pain into greatness and you allow your pain to push you to where you need to be. Stop running from your pain and embrace your pain.”
It’s never too late to start. But you can never give up and you must push through the pain.

Jesus does not call us to judge others, but to love them by His example. Matthew 7:3 says, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” In this video, Clayton Jennings gives a compelling depiction of how Jesus calls us to deal with all sinners, not just those who sin differently than us. He calls us to LOVE them!

Don’t let current hardship dictate who you are. Often, our struggles in this life prepare us for lessons we learned in order to accomplish extraordinary things later on.

My friend Ellen started an awesome campaign called the Supermodel Astronaut Challenge to help young girls recognize ‘I Am Enough’. As the father of 3 teenage girls, I love what she is challenging young (and older) women to recognize; that for the most part, the things they believe about themselves and what the media feeds them, are simply not true. The full pledge and a better description of the challenge can be found here, Supermodel Astronaut Challenge. Below is a fun video and song she developed. I hope you enjoy it and take the time to embrace what this powerful message.
