2015 Day 102 – WillPower5k

Yesterday my wife, youngest daughter, and I had the privilege of participating in the WillPower5k here in Franklin, TN. We loved the race and we love being able to support this worthy cause. Here is a quick synopsis on Will’s story from his site:

“In 2012 while away at summer camp, 12 year old Franklin resident Will NeSmith suffered a spontaneous brain hemorrhage — an event that occurs in less than .001% of the population. Will spent 3 weeks in a coma and 2 months in the hospital — emerging only to learn that he would spend years rehabilitating his brain and body to relearn everything from walking to talking. He also discovered that the long term physical, occupational and speech therapy he needed would not be covered by his health insurance. Will founded the WillPower race to celebrate his survival, educate folks about stroke recovery and raise research money for Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) — the genetic condition that led to Will’s brain bleed. 2015 Day 95 – Happy Easter!

When we say “Happy Easter”, we should be over-joyed by what this day represents. The picture below was taken this morning from my backyard. Every time I see a sunrise I want to be reminded of what Jesus did for me and that He is alive; He rose from the dead for me and now I have eternal life because of Him. Jesus endured a tremendous amount of suffering for each of us so we could experience eternal life. Earlier this week we talked about the beginning of Luke 24:6 where the angel of the Lord says to the women who went to Jesus’ tomb, “He is not here; He is risen!” Imagine the emotions of going from “all is lost” to “He is alive!!”.

2015 Day 88 – Hope in the Dark

I came across the Ralph Waldo Emerson quote below and it made me think about how much I fill my life with things that distract me away from God. Sometimes God has to clear the clutter and all the pretty lights so I can see the hope I can only find through Him. All those lights and distractions keep us from realizing there is hope in the darkness. “When it is dark enough, we can see the stars.” And in the case of the believer, who has a relationship with the creator of those stars, there is hope in the darkness.

2015 Day 74 – One Man’s Special Delivery

I came across this video last week while I was watching “CBS Sunday Morning”. It struck me as so special that two men wanted to make a difference in the world in what some would call a small way. But to one man, it made all the difference in the world. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

2015 Day 67 – How to Connect with God

So… I watched this video yesterday and I was fascinated by what they were trying to prove. It showed different couples, each of which had known each other for various lengths of time, and how their levels of intimacy were affected by staring into each other’s eyes for four minutes straight. While this was a silly experiment, it got me thinking about what it would be like to focus our attention on our relationship with God for extended periods of time. We are often distracted when we talk to God and focused on what we need. Imagine what would happen if we focused on our relationship with Him instead of just our wants and needs.

I found this clip by J.I. Packer very interesting and accurate. The church is becoming something it was never intended to become. It’s supposed to be about bringing us into a true relationship with God and to truly know Him. Unfortunately, in many cases, we are failing.

2015 Day 39 – Why Dads Lie

I came across this video earlier this week. In the beginning I couldn’t quite tell which direction the video was going, but in the end I was pleasantly surprised. It reminded me of why I do the things I do as a father to protect my kids. And while “lying” to my kids is wrong, I do think it’s important to shield them from the realities of this world and allow them to grow into maturity at a safe pace.
