2014 Day 196 – Proverbs 1

Today we begin a stretch where we will leave the New Testament for a few weeks and spend some time reading the book of Proverbs and a few select passages in the book Psalm. The book of Proverbs is rich in wisdom and knowledge. I challenge all of us to find passages that challenge and encourage us each day. In today’s reading in Proverbs 1, I wanted to share the Prologue of the book which gives the purpose and theme of Proverbs:

The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
for gaining wisdom and instruction;
for understanding words of insight;
for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
doing what is right and just and fair;
for giving prudence to those who are simple,
knowledge and discretion to the young—
let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance—
for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

2014 Day 195 – Revelation 22

Well, we finally made it through the book of Revelation. The great thing about this book is it completes the story of Jesus and shows God’s ultimate power over everything on this earth. This is the equivalent of turning to the back of the book which tells the story of our lives, reading the last chapter, and realizing in the end we will win. While sometimes we don’t feel it, God is in control now and forever. Thank you for hanging in there these past 22 days of reading this difficult book. Tomorrow we will begin reading the book of Proverbs, followed by select passages in the book of Psalm before reading through the Gospels through the rest of the year.

2014 Day 194 – Ben Utecht: You Will Always Be My Girls

Years of concussions have left NFL-great Ben Utecht with a brain disease that is taking his memory at only 30 years old. But it’s what he did with the memories he had left that will leave you in tears! I hope you enjoy this video.

2014 Day 193 – Revelation 21

Just as God completed creation and Jesus completed the required work of salvation, so will the Trinity of God invite us all into the completed work of judgement that leads to righteousness in the new creation. Revelation 21:6 says, He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.

2014 Day 192 – Revelation 20

In today’s reading, John, the author, talks about a time when God will reign for a thousand years without the presence of the evil one Satan. It’s hard to imagine what that will be like, but it shows how much God is in control now and forever.

2014 Day 191 – Revelation 19

Revelation 19:1 stood out to me today, After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. After all the judgement God will have on the evils of this world, He will still deserve our worship and praise because He is a just and righteous God.

2014 Day 190 – Revelation 18

Not sure what to say about today’s reading in Revelation 18 other than God uses Babylon as the example of how He will punish for the evils of this world. For our application today, we need to remember to be contributors of good and not evil. This world does not need help adding evil, it needs more people who shine a light of goodness and reflect the love of Christ.

2014 Day 189 – Revelation 17

The verse that stood out to me today was Revelation 17:14, They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.” It’s the same theme that keeps jumping out at me. In the end, the Lamb will triumph over all evil.

2014 Day 188 – Revelation 16

I don’t have much to say about today’s reading other than to say that God’s wrath is complete. There is no hiding from God’s need from righteousness other than accepting His perfect grace.

2014 Day 187 – Shane and Shane: Without Jesus

Where would I be without Jesus? That is a question I often ask myself. The video below by Shane and Shane reminded me how empty my life would be without Him. In the end, I could have it all and still have nothing if not for His saving grace and the Holy Spirit’s presence in my life.
