2014 Day 176 – Revelation 6

I don’t have much to say about today’s reading other than to point out it is full of imagery and prophesy of what is to one day come. I think it is easy for some people to dwell on all the suffering and pain that is yet to come. But God did not ask us to focus on the future, He asked us to focus on the serving others today, and to be an example of who Christ was on this earth. The rest will happen according to His timing and will.

2014 Day 175 – Revelation 5

The verse that stood out to me today is Revelation 5:12 In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” We could never praise Jesus enough for all He is. We simply scratch the surface when we try because He is worth so much more that we could ever give. It is why He is sufficient for us.

Today’s chapter can be summed up by the last verse, Revelation 4:11, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” In the end, all creatures in heaven and earth will praise God because he is the creator and sustainer of everything.

2014 Day 173 – The Best First Date

Last week was Father’s Day. As the father of three teenage girls, I am thankful I had great counsel from some godly men who encouraged me to be a example of what a man should be for my girls as they grow up. The video below exemplifies the importance of this. All girls need a hero and I hope and pray I am to my girls. I hope you enjoy the video.

2014 Day 172 – Revelation 3

God is always with us. He is always there waiting on us. Revelation 3:20 says, Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. We never have to wonder if God will accept us. He plainly states “Here I am!”

There is an intriguing verse in Revelation 2:28, I will also give him the morning star. A morning star appears just before dawn when it is coldest and darkest. When the world is at it’s darkest point Christ will come and expose the darkness with His light of truth and promised victory.

2014 Day 170 – Revelation 1

Today we will begin the somewhat tedious 22 day process of reading through the book of Revelation. While this is a difficult book to engage, it is a vital part of our theology and ultimately a book of hope and faith; the hope and faith that God is in control and no matter how hard life is for each of us, He is always with us. Revelation 1:17-18 says 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. God holds the keys to everything and evil only exists in His absence. God is in control and the victory for our lives has already been won when we choose to trust and follow Him.

2014 Day 169 – 3 John 1

We are to be a reflection of Christ in all we do. 3 John 1:11 says, Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God. There are plenty of examples of evil in this world that we can use as examples. However, we are to be imitators of what is good, which is to be imitators of Christ because He is our perfect example. The sad part is many churches, and therefore the people in churches, are not great examples of Christ. We need to go to the source and follow what is said directly from God’s word.

The verse that stood out to me today was 2 John 1:8, Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you be rewarded fully. Being rewarded fully does not mean salvation, it means being rewarded for loyal service to God. We can only receive salvation once and it is for eternity through grace because of Christ’s sacrifice. But when we have a relationship with God and want to serve Him in all we do, He will reward us for that loyal service.

Whether we are children or adults, obedience is not always easy. Sometimes doing the right thing is actually harder than than doing what is easy. Jesus never promised us obeying Him would be easy, but when we love and serve Christ, the hard work and self-discipline in serving Him is not burdensome. 1 John 5:3-4 says, In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. But when the burden does become too heavy, He never leaves us alone and is with us to help carry the load. All that we face and the obedience we show is because of the victory we ultimately have in Christ.
