2014 Day 46 – 1 Corinthians 2

We cannot imagine all that God ultimately has in store for us both in this life and in eternity. Paul says it best as he quotes from Isaiah 64:4 in 1 Corinthians 2:9-10a 9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”—the things God has prepared for those who love him— 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The things of this world are not all there is. What God has in store for us in eternity is the best that is yet to come.

1 Corinthians 1:25 says so much about God, For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. Not that God is weak or foolish, but the point is that He is much stronger than we could ever be. If He had a weakness it would still be stronger than our strongest strength (say that three times fast).

One of the key things that stood out to me in today’s reading and, which is true to our present day, is the gospel is disruptive. We sometimes want the gospel to be all about peace and love, and while those things are true, it is also about shining light on what is evil. God is the perfect light and when He shines, everything is exposed. We should not be afraid of His light, we should be thankful that He loves us enough to help us fix what is wrong so we can experience true peace and love that comes from a pure existence.

I love the simple truth of 2 Thessalonians 3:13 And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good. Doing the right thing should never get tiresome to us. When we see persistent evil in this world we must be the counter to it. We are to be a reflection of our God.

I love how this chapter ends, 16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. Paul hopes for Jesus Christ himself and God to provide encouragement, hope, and strength to the church in Thessalonica. I pray the same for us as well. Only God can truly provide those things to us. We just need to humble ourselves and ask.

2014 Day 41 – 2 Thessalonians 1

It seems believers are turning more and more away from the notion that God is just. I think it is easier to believe God’s love means He doesn’t want justice for sin. While God has provided a provision for sin when we trust and believe in the saving grace provided by Christ’s sacrifice, God still demands justice which is why Christ had to be crucified for our sins. 2 Thessalonians 1:6 says, God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you. This also means God protects us. He is able to provide justice on our behalf. There is nothing wrong with asking for justice as long as we remember it is up to God to provide it.

For today’s reflection post I wanted to share this video which unfortunately has no real spiritual implications. However, it does have fundamental importance on our ability to have faith that all things are possible. The video shows the potential of what we are capable as humans. But what happens when we multiply our human capabilities with the power of God in our lives? Hopefully, this video challenges you to thing about that potential.

2014 Day 39 – 1 Thessalonians 5

1 Thessalonians 5 is a power chapter. It speaks plainly about doing what is right and not just knowing what is right. It is also a very encouraging chapter for all believers. One of the strongest is verses 8, But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. Faith, Hope, and Love are repeated throughout the New Testament as important aspects of our lives as believer. Let us never forget to make them a part of our daily lives.

The verse that best summarizes this chapter is 1 Thessalonians 4:7, For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. As a reflection of God, we must strive to be pure. Not because God requires it from us to be saved, but because it is right and good for us. Acceptance of Christ’s sacrifice is the only requirement for salvation, but God wants purity in our lives because He wants what is best for us. While some may see purity as prison, it is in fact freedom.

I loved reading 1 Thessalonians 3:12 today, May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. When God’s love is great in our lives, it is overflowing. God has so much love to give it should spill out over our lives and to the lives of other. When I feel like I am low on loving others, it is usually because I am lacking in my ability to openly feel God’s love in me.
