2014 Day 6 – Acts 5

How many of us would  praise God for the opportunity to suffer for Him? Act 5:41 says, The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. The apostles praised God because God found them worth of suffering for Him. I often feel that I personally live too comfortable of an existence. I look for the simple life that is friction-less and carefree. I need to be more deliberate about searching for opportunities to be worth of fully being used by God; whatever that means.

2014 Day 5 – John Piper – Don’t Waste Your Life: Risk

I love listening to John Piper. In this short video He talks about taking a risk for the Kingdom. This does not mean we should be be dumb about this, but we should be daring and trusting in God that He can do a might work through us and for His glory. Romans 8:38-39 says, 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2014 Day 4 – Acts 4

I love Peter’s description of Jesus in verse 11, Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ The capstone unites two sides of an arch. Without Jesus, there would be no church because there would be nothing to unite the old and the new.

2014 Day 3 – Acts 3

God never asked us to do anything specific in His name other than be obedient. For Peter, his obedience called for him to give all he had to the crippled man. In verse 6 it says, Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” While riches may provide means to serve God, the only thing He really asks of us is to trust in Him and give all He has provided us to give.

2014 Day 2 – Acts 2

One of the things we must remember as we read the book of Acts is this is an example of how we should live as believers. I’m not necessarily saying we should sell all our possessions, but we should learn to focus on serving God more and focus less on serving our own interests. Life as a believer is simple; love others, serve them, and help bring them to a closer relationship with God. The rest is less important to God and simply makes us feel more important in the eyes of others.

2014 Day 1 – Acts 1

Today we begin a brand new year with our new 2014 Bible Reading Plan. We begin with the book of Acts which weaves throughout our reading through most of the year. Acts begins with Jesus spending time with the apostles after His resurrection. As I read this it reminds me why the apostles were so bold in all they did. They experienced Jesus first-hand right after crucifixion and His sacrifice. They knew exactly what Jesus was capable of accomplishing. Their courage and boldness throughout this book is meant as an example for all of us and to encourage us of God’s greatness and love for us.

INFORMATION: Happy New Year

We finally made it through the entire Bible in a single year! This is a great accomplishment! I want to thank each of you who read along and shared your thoughts this past year. The comments were a blessing to me with a challenging perspective each time. It is my hope that you choose to continue reading in 2014 and maybe invite others to join this next year. Our new reading plan is the 2014 Bible Reading Plan, which was developed through a combination of the past two year’s plans. We will read 6 days a week with a reflection day each Sunday. We will cover the New Testament starting with the book of Acts and proceeding through it chronologically, except in regards to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, which we will cover at the end of the year leading up to Christmas. From the middle of July to the beginning of September we will take a short break from the New Testament to read the book of Proverbs and a few key Psalms. I will continue to post each day and will try to find videos or links for our reflection days. If you find anything interesting, please do not hesitate to share and I’ll be happy to post it.

Once again, thank you for joining us this past year. May you and your family have a blessed 2014!

2013 Day 365 – The New Year

Google publishes a video each year reviewing the most popular searches on their site from the past year. I thought it would be a good video to close 2013. Not everything in this video is positive from a believer’s perspective. While we face turmoil in our world, it is important to remember that God is still in control.

Happy New Year!!!

From the video’s description on YouTube:

“John 3:16 – The Story of Love” came from the movie Most (The Bridge), a beautiful Oscar-nominated movie and winner of many prestigious film festivals that tells the story of the close relationship between a bridge operator and his young son and the fateful day when both try to head off an impending rail disaster. This video is narrated by Reggie Dabbs through his sermon at Planetshakers Conference 2007.
