2013 Day 362 – Revelation 21-22, Isaiah 66

Today is our final reading for 2013 and it is also the completion of our read through the entire Bible. Revelation 21:6 is a great culmination of what we’ve read this year. He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. I am so thankful to everyone who participated in reading this year. It was a great accomplishment to read the entire Bible with you this year. Few have attempted this and even few have accomplished it.

Next year we will change things up and probably slow things down a bit. I will most likely combine last year’s process of reading the New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs with this year’s reflection day each Sunday to allow us time to reflect on the previous week’s reading and give time to catch up if you fall behind.

My friend Sarah also suggested some topical readings which we can certainly combine into our plan if we are only reading one chapter instead of 4-5 chapters per day. I will post this year’s plan by December 31st. In the meantime, we will have reflection posts for the last three days of 2013. May you and your family have a blessed New Year!

As we approach the end of both Revelation and Isaiah, we begin to see glimpses of what true peace looks like. While we all long for peace, the truth is we will not experience true peace until the end times finally come. This may sound hopeless, but it is meant to encourage us to know what we experience is part of the plan. God has it under control. We must trust Him and know His plan is perfect.

There is only one true God. Since the beginning of time, there is only one God who can do all He has done. Isaiah 64:4 says, Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him. God’s greatest desire is to have a relationship with us and to be our protector and provider. All the judgement and suffering we read about in these passages comes from our disobedience and rebellion from God. Let us remember that God is a loving God. He also requires justice, but He never stops loving us.

Merry Christmas everyone! May you have a blessed day. While the words we are reading may seem heavy, they are the culmination of what we celebrate today. What began in a simple manger will ultimately lead to complete victory in Christ.

In today’s reading, the number 666 is revealed. It was interesting to read the notes in my Bible and the many interpretations of why this represents the number of the beast. The most intriguing was that if 777 represents the number of perfection, then 666 would in turn represent falling short of perfection. This is a great lesson to us all and expresses our need for a savior who bridges the gap where we fall short of a relationship with Him.

The verse that stood out to me in today’s reading is Isaiah 61:10, I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. This verse most likely refers to the Messiah prophesied by Isaiah. However, this verse can also refer to us being clothes in the righteousness of Christ when we believe in Him.

We are in a tough part of the Bible. While this is all very important when taken in context as a whole, it is a bit difficult to pull nuggets of information from a few chapters at a time. The key to today’s reading is to remember that in the end, God’s plan will be fully revealed. We must trust that His plan is perfect and everything works to lead us to what is described in these passages.

2013 Day 355 – John Piper: From Darkness to Light

In today’s reflection, I came across this short John Piper video where he explains what it is like to come out of the darkness and into the light of new birth. When God opens our eyes to Him, He is no longer irrelevant to us. Having eyes that are open brings us out of the darkness and into the light of fully experiencing God.

Isaiah 59:1 hit me right between the eyes today, Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. When we think no one can help us, we must remember that God is able. He may choose to wait, but He is able to do anything including perform miracles. We must never stop asking God for help and we must never stop expecting God to act in our lives. No task is ever too big or too small because He loves us.

Jesus is worth of our praise. Revelation 5:11-12 says, 11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” The angels praise Him and recognize how worthy He is to be praised. How much more should we?
