2013 Day 352 – Revelation 3-4, Isaiah 57

I drink water instead of sodas and sugary drinks all the time. I have actually learned to love it… when there is ice in it or when it’s hot in tea or coffee. However, there is nothing less satisfying that lukewarm water. The same applies for lukewarm believers according to Revelation 3:15-16, 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Don’t settle for following God halfway and in name only. Allow God to penetrate your life and fire up your faith where He can fully use you.

Today we begin the final book of the Bible, Revelation, which is written by the Apostle John. We have exactly 11 day of reading left for this year and I’m not gonna lie, this is a tough book to get through. However, it is important to remember this is not just a book about the end times and God’s ultimate judgement; it is a book of hope as well. It is a reminder that God is in control and in the end, He wins! Let us try to read this as a book of God’s perfect control.

2013 Day 350 – Malachi 3-4, Isaiah 55

God’s knowledge and wisdom is far greater than our own. We would be fools to try to fit God into our mold and to make His purpose fit our own. Isaiah 55:8-9 says, 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. We must always work to fit into God’s plan for our lives. Sometimes obedience is simply surrender.

Today we being the final book of the New Testament, Malachi. This book was written 430 B.C. and its purpose was to confront the people with their sins and to restore their relationship with God. Malachi is the bridge between the Old and New Testament. As we read this book let us put ourselves in the place of the recipient of these words and evaluate where our relationship is with God right now.

I love the heart behind this video. Instead of spending money on meaningless advertisements, they decided to spend money by creating some Christmas magic for a few of their customers. Such a great example of serving people in a way that impacts them the most.

2013 Day 347 – Zechariah 13-14, Isaiah 53

Isaiah 53 is one of the greatest prophetic descriptions of Jesus Christ as the messiah. How can we not see Christ’s description especially when we read some of the initial verses in this chapter. Verses 2-4 says, 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. 4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. These are some powerful words written hundreds of years before Christ and yet they describe Him perfectly. Each time I read this chapter in Isaiah I am in awe of its prophesy.

What better task is there than to share good news with other people, especially when it’s the good news of salvation. Isaiah 52:7 talks about how “beautiful” are the feet of those who bring good news, How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Our lives have purpose. God has us here to live a full life in relationship with Him and to share his good news with others. We should count it a privilege to be used by God in this way.

Sometimes we feel alone when we do what is right. We never need to feel alone because God stands with us. Isaiah 51:7 says, “Hear me, you who know what is right, you people who have taken my instruction to heart: Do not fear the reproach of mere mortals or be terrified by their insults. We must never fear the insults of others for our faith. We need not water down our beliefs. We must always show our faith in love and be a reflection of Christ, but fear should never enter into the picture.

2013 Day 344 – Zechariah 4-6, Isaiah 50

This world tells us we must be tough, strong, powerful and harsh in order to survive in it. But God has a different plan in Zechariah 4:6 So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty. The key word here is Spirit because the only things of lasting value come from God’s Spirit leading us. As we make the decision to live our lives for God, we must trust less in our own strength and abilities by trusting God and the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Today we begin another one of the minor prophets, Zechariah. This book is written to the Jews in Jerusalem to give them hope by revealing God’s future deliverance through the Messiah. It was written between 520-480 BC when the Jews returned to Jerusalem from their captivity in Babylon to rebuild the temple. Zechariah and Haggai confronted the people and encouraged them to complete it. God, through Zechariah, gave the people all they needed to complete the rebuilding of the temple if they were simply obedient. Zechariah 3:7 says, This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘If you will walk in obedience to me and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here.’ God gives us everything we need to be a part of His perfect plan if we simply trust and obey Him.
