2013 Day 312 – Ezekiel 43-45, Psalm 133-134

In today’s reading in Ezekiel, we spent some time walking through the restoration of the priesthood. While we would never go through the same extensive steps to be restored, it is important for us to be deliberate about our restoration when necessary. If we do not recognize how we have failed, we are doomed to return to the same point of failure.

While the following video does not have direct spiritual application, when I watched the it, I was simply destroyed. It reminded me of eternity and the knowledge that we will all be together again one day. If you choose to watch this, make sure you have a tissue near by.

2013 Day 310 – Ezekiel 39-42, Psalm 132

In today’s reading in Psalm 132 I do not have a specific verse to share, just a simple thought. When we honor God He also honors us. Not because He has to, but because He wanted to all along.

Thankfully we have a God who is gracious. Can you imagine if God held us accountable for every sin we ever committed? David says in Psalm 130:3-4, 3 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. Through God’s mercy we are forgiven. More importantly, through the sacrifice of Jesus, our sins are forgotten. Forgiveness should be freeing to us, which in turn is meant to allow us to serve God fully without hesitation from guilt. We must accept God’s forgiveness completely and go out to serve Him freely.

As we continue our reading in Ezekiel, the book begins to make a switch from condemnation to painting a picture of hope. In the beginning of the book, Ezekiel told the Israelites of their destruction. Now he begins to proclaim the hope of restoration. Even though the Israelites listen to Ezekiel, they continue to live their lives as they please. We may look at the Israelites and think how foolish they are, but the truth is we often do the same thing. While we know the message of forgiveness, we still live sinful lives. Thank God for His forgiveness and grace. Let us not live lives which take it for granted.

2013 Day 307 – Ezekiel 27-30, Psalm 127

In today’s reading we continue to see God’s judgment against those who are against Him. I have often wondered the purpose of these types of passages in the Bible. They always seem so depressing and paint such a harsh picture of our loving God. But when I realize this is God’s way of comforting His people, it makes more sense. When we look at the injustices of this evil world, it is easy to wonder where God is. However, when we see that God will ultimately be known and the evil will be punished, we can relax and know God’s timing is perfect and there is purpose in His timing. We must trust in Him and know He has it under control.

God’s ability to restore is beyond our comprehension. Forests burn to the ground and are able to grow back. Bones break and are able to heal. The same can be said for times of sorrow in our lives. Psalm 126:5 says, Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. 6 Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them. We may feel the pain and sorrow of loss or from someone who has hurt us, but God will heal us over time. We must trust God to restore us in the end.

In today’s reading, I really took hold of what David said in Psalm 124:8, Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. If we believe God is powerful enough to create both heaven and earth, why would we doubt His ability to help us when we need Him most? Trust in God and His power and desire to protect us in all we do.

Through Christ we can thrive under pressure. When we realize our weakness, we look to Christ for our strength. I hope this video encourages you and helps you see how God’s strength can give us everything we need in our weakness.
