2016 Day 338 – Psalm 32

When we trust in God for the forgiveness of our sin, we are truly blessed. God has the ability to cover our sin as if it never happened when we trust and believe in him to do it. David recognized this in Psalm 32. He understood the impact forgiveness has in bringing true joy. When we ask God to forgive us of our sins, He gives us real happiness and relief from the guilt of carrying the burden.

Blessed is he whose transgression are forgiven, whose sins are covered.

– Psalm 32:1

David knew he could be strong because he could lean on the strength of the Lord. In Psalm 31:24 David says, Be Strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord. Our hope comes from God. If we had to rely on our own strength all the time, it would falter. Praise God for being our strength, no matter the circumstances.

God has the ability to turn our sorrows into joy. That does not necessarily mean happiness; but pure joy that comes from the confidence of knowing God is in control. In the first part of Psalm 30:11 David exclaims, You turned my wailing into dancing. God can do that for all of us. Even when things are not going according to our plan, we can find joy in knowing God’s plan is perfect.

When we trust in the Lord, He is able to give us strength. In Psalm 29:11 David says, The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace. We have God’s power available to us when we trust in Him.

David is faced with trouble in Psalm 28, but he knows God is his source of strength and the only one who provides true salvation. In Psalm 28:8 David says, The Lord is the strength of His people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.

In Psalm 27, it is clear David was going through a trial, but he was still confident of God’s presence and protection in this life. Psalm 27:13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the Land of the living. David knew God would see him through any struggle in this life and see him through to the next.

David loved being on the side of God the Father. His purpose in life was to bring glory to God in all he did. In Psalm 26:8 David says, I love the house where you live, O Lord, the place where your glory dwells. David wasn’t necessarily referring to the physical house of God, but additionally, he was talking about being in God’s will and doing what was pleasing to God. Let us all be as motivated and energized as David to be in line with the will of the Father.

David knew forgiveness of sin was a big request. In Psalm 25:11 he asks God for forgiveness even though he knew his sin was great, For the sake of your name, O Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great. Even in the day of David, he knew the Messiah was going to fix all this and become the perfect and final sacrifice, which Christ fulfilled. We are forgiven and free because of Christ and His love for us.

In Psalm 24 David is not confused about who is the the One who deserves all glory. In Psalm 24:10 David says, Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty — he is the King of Glory. We cannot lose sight of who is the King and who deserves glory for all that is good.
