2016 Day 317 – Psalm 14

Those who do not know God and who fail to have a real relationship with Him have no hope. In Psalm 14:1 David says, The fool says in his heart, “There is not God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. Without God it is difficult to look at the struggles we all face and continue to have hope for our future. But through God we can all face the future knowing God is always by our sides.

2016 Day 316 – Psalm 13

David begins this Psalm very much like many of us in times of trouble when we do not feel God’s presence. But David ends with Psalm 13:5 with trust and hope for deliverance from our loving God, But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. Do not wait until God delivers you before you praise Him. Use David as your example where He praised God knowing He would deliver him from his despair.

What comes out of our mouth can be used to encourage and speak loving truth to those around us. But, though it is a small part of our bodies, our tongue can also cause greater destruction than any other part. In Psalm 12:3-4 David says, May the Lord cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue that says, “We will triumph with our tongues; we own our lips — who is our master?” In this day of social media people find it acceptable to say things they never would in person. Unfortunately, this is now permeating into the physical as well as virtual worlds where people are not afraid to speak their minds to perfect strangers. We must guard our speech from hurting others and instead do all things in love.

2016 Day 314 – Psalm 11

God loves His creation, but He hates sin. In Psalm 11:5 David says,  The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates. While God has grace for us all, He will never accept sin. Praise God for forgiving us of our sin and allowing us to have a true relationship with Him.

2016 Day 313 – Psalm 10

Psalm 10 is timely as we contemplate the direction of our country on this election day. It is times like these we question why the wicked always seem to succeed. The important thing to remember is God may seem to be hidden at times, but we can rest assured he is aware of every injustice. Psalm 10:16 says, The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. When evil succeeds it is always temporary. God’s justice will always prevail.

2016 Day 312 – Psalm 9

Psalm 9 is a Psalm of praise to God who never ignores our cries for help. David begins the Psalm with the first verse by saying, I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. No matter how bleak it may seem because of our circumstances, God is always with us. Over and over again, God hears our cries and delivers us through His power and His love for us.

2016 Day 310 – Psalm 8

In today’s Psalm, David praises God for His greatness. In Psalm 8:9 David ends the Psalm the way it started, O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! God’s majesty is above all of His creation!

2016 Day 309 – Psalm 7

In today’s Psalm, David is once again asking God to deliver justice to the wicked.  Psalm 7:9 says, O righteous God, who searches hearts and minds, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. God is not fooled by the wicked and He does not lack the will to protect the righteous. God is loving and kind, but He will not sit back and allow evil to go without judgement. It is OK for us to ask Him for intervention and protection from the evils of this world.
