2016 Day 308 – Psalm 6

Psalm 6:1 begins with O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. David was not perfect and at times he knew he deserved God’s punishment. But he still requested God’s mercy. While God requires justice and judgement for sin, He is also loving and merciful in His correction of us in our sin. Through Christ God expressed His loving kindness in His forgiveness of our sin instead of giving us what we really deserve.

In my opinion, the best time to spend time in prayer is first thing in the morning. It is when our minds are most clear from the stress of the day. In Psalm 5:3 David says, In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. When we set our mind right with God in the morning and we lay our needs at His feet, we then have the entire day to wait and see Him answer our prayers.

We can all rest assured when we call God, He hears us. In Psalm 4:3 David says, Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord will hear when I call him. As believers we should all be confident in God’s willingness to hear our call for help because of His love for us.

God’s power cannot be contained, but He is able to protect us and be with us no matter where we are. In Psalm 3:4 David says, To the Lord I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill. When we need Him, He is there. There is no hesitation from the Lord when we need Him.

While there is seems to be much angst about this election, it is important to remember God is in control regardless of all the craziness happening around us. Psalm 2:1 says, Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? No matter what happens around us, including our election for a new president, God’s plan and His will are perfect. Most importantly, He will ultimately be glorified.

If we want to be wise, we must not allow ourselves to be influenced by the unwise. The same thing goes for righteousness; if we want to be righteous, then we must avoid being influenced by those who do not see anything wrong with the sin in their lives. The very first verse in book of Psalm says: (Psalm 1:1) Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. Blessed are those of us who can avoid the influence of people who do not add value to our spiritual lives, which in turn affect our lives as a whole.

As a society we give to much value to physical beauty; but true beauty comes from the inside. Proverbs 31:30 says, Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. There is nothing more beautiful than a woman who loves the Lord, and because of that Love and relationship with Him, has unquestionable character and integrity. We need to reevaluate our societal standards and give respect and honor to the things that matter. Physical beauty will only go so far and will not last forever, but our love of God lasts for eternity.

2016 Day 300 – Proverbs 29

How many of us are willing to pray the following to God in Proverbs 29:7-9? 7 Two things I ask of you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die: 8 Keep falsehood and lies from me; give me neither poverty or riches, but give me only my daily bread. 9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. Asking God for just what we need and deliberating asking Him to not give us too much, is a difficult prayer to consider. But trusting God to provide only what we need would be a true step of faith.

When we look for justice from imperfect people, we get imperfect justice. Proverbs 29:26 says, Many seek an audience with a ruler, but it is from the Lord that man gets justice. Only God can delivery perfect justice when we feel wronged by the evil in this world. Trust that God’s deliverance will come in His perfect timing.
