2016 Day 96 – John 21

In this final chapter of John as we finish the Gospels of Jesus Christ, we read the final documented interaction with His disciples. As Jesus commands Peter to feed His sheep, Peter turns around and looks at John and asks Jesus, “What about Him?” Jesus responds in John 21:22, Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” In other words, “Peter, worry about yourself.” The same advice applies to us. We worry too much about the rest of the world and the influence it has on others. We need to spend the majority of our energy and time worrying about our own relationship with God. While Jesus plainly commands us to “Feed His sheep”, when it comes to relationship, the only one we can control is our own.

I cannot wait to feel the joy of seeing Jesus face to face for the first time. When Mary Magdalene saw Jesus for the first time after His resurrection is probably a good glimpse of what it will be like for us. John 20:15 paints the picture, Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means teacher). When I read the part where Jesus calls Mary’s name, I try to replace her name with mine on the day I see Him for the first time face to face.

2016 Day 93 – Luke 24

One of the most beautiful passages in the Gospels comes from the first part of Luke 24:6 which says, He is not here, He is risen! We all could go back to the tomb and look for Jesus, but He simply is not there. Praise God He died and rose again so we all could live eternally.

2016 Day 92 – Mark 16

The Great Commission as stated in Mark 16:15 by Jesus, He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. It is a simple concept and yet it’s one of the hardest things to do. But in the last verse of the book of Mark it says and the Lord worked with them. Jesus never left them alone. He didn’t just walk away and leave the disciples to fend for themselves. And just like He did for them, Jesus will always be with us. It takes faith and trust, but He is there.

2016 Day 91 – Matthew 28

Jesus’ last quote in Matthew 19-20, 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. The Great Commission was stated to the disciples directly, but was meant for all believers. It is not a suggestion, it is a command. But more importantly, it is a privilege to be in God’s will and to be used by Him for an eternal impact. Let us not take it for granted.

2016 Day 90 – John 19

Jesus died an excruciatingly painful death. It was physically painful, but it was just as painful spiritually and emotionally. Jesus’ last moments are captured in John 19:30, When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished,” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. At that moment Jesus’ suffering ended. But it did not just end for Him, but for us as well. He took on all the pain and suffering for us so we would not have to experience it ourselves. When we stop and contemplate what it all really means we see how big of a sacrifice He made on our behalf.

2016 Day 89 – John 18

Jesus never once hid from the truth. There were times when He chose not to defend himself, but He never hid from it. In John 18:37 Pilate questioned Jesus and He responded clearly, “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” Jesus came to the world speaking the truth. Those who believed the truth, and in some cases made a conscious choice to believe, were able to see it. But in most cases, especially the religious leader, they chose to not see the truth because it required change and faith. Let us not be afraid to change in order to listen and believe the truth.

Jesus, the only perfect man to walk the face of the earth, died on the cross to atone for our sins. We are no different than the men who hung on the cross with Jesus. One of the men even acknowledged Jesus’ sacrifice for all Luke 23:41 “We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Let us never forget our sinfulness and our unworthiness to be forgiven of our sin through Jesus’ sacrifice. He took our place on the cross and for that reason alone we will live for eternity.

2016 Day 87 – HE IS RISEN!!!

What if the resurrection happened today? This is how we would have reacted and it’s the way we should still feel today.
