2015 Day 360 – Mark 1

Today we read what the fuss was all about with the birth of Jesus Christ. While no one knew Jesus was the Messiah at the time, there was very little uncertainty about His power and willingness to help the needy. Mark 1:34 sums it up, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. Jesus not only healed, but He was strategic about it. He knew that once word got out about His power and willingness to help, it would be nearly impossible to move about freely. Later on we read how difficult it was for Jesus to move about, but it was His compassion and love that drove Him to the people to love and heal them.

There is very little I can say to enhance today’s reading of the Christmas story. Praise be to Jesus and the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas!!!

2015 Day 358 – Matthew 2

Miracles were a part of Jesus’ life from the very beginning. It all started with the Magi coming from the East. How did these men know the Christ was born? Did they even know He was the Messiah? But they showed up anyway through miraculous guidance. Then Herod wanted Jesus dead, but the Magi were warned in a dream not to go back to Herod in order to protect the future Savior of the World. Then Joseph was warned to take his family to Egypt to further protect Jesus from death. God protected the Messiah in miraculous ways and He did it for our benefit. Not just for the obvious reason of protecting our Savior, but also so we would know God’s hand was in it from the beginning. God loves us so much He is willing to move mountains on our behalf. Providing a way to eternal salvation was just the beginning.

2015 Day 357 – Matthew 1

This is one of the most telling chapters in the entire Bible confirming the true identity of Christ as the Messiah. When you look at the genealogy of Christ you see it. Matthew 1:17 says, Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ. While this is not the only proof (and there are many), it is one of the most interesting and special parts of the story. It paints a clear picture of God’s perfect plan. When we think our lives make no sense, remember God’s plan is always perfect and we are a part of that plan.

2015 Day 356 – Luke 1

As we approach the last few days before Christmas I thought it would be a good time to begin reading about the birth of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Today we will begin in Luke 1. For the most part, this is the story of John the Baptist’s birth, but it also talks about Mary and the story of how the angel Gabriel notified her of her role in the birth of Christ. Gabriel’s message required Mary and Elizabeth to have tremendous amounts of faith and obedience. The possibilities surrounding pregnancy of a woman who had been barren her whole like and of a young virgin would obviously require miraculous occurrences. Yet, both women believed and took their roles seriously and with honor. How many of us would be willing to believe the impossible when it comes to God providing for us in miraculous ways?

2015 Day 355 – Psalm 18

In  today’s reading, David exalts the Lord with gratitude for delivering him from his enemies and granting him victory. In Psalm 18:32 David says, It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. Without God we will never be strong enough to win against evil. The only way to be certain of deliverance is to call on God for help and strength.

2015 Day 353 – Psalm 17

David wrote Psalm 17 while he was be persecuted by Saul. You can feel the desperation as he reaches out to God for deliverance. In Psalm 17:6 David says, I call on  you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer. One way or another, David would be delivered; even in death. In the end, we all know God delivered David from Saul’s persecution.  But David trusted in God for His will to be done. This is a powerful example to all of us.

2015 Day 352 – Psalm 16

In today’s reading, David makes it clear he knows where his joy and stability come from. In Psalm 16:2 he says, I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” All that is good in my life, like David’s, comes from God. Whether it is my marriage, my kids, or my friendships; if it does not come from God, it will not give me the joy and peace I need for true contentment.
