2015 Day 251 – 2 Timothy 3

God’s word is important to me. It is the reason I try to spend at least a few minutes in it 6 days a week. But if I don’t believe it is God’s words coming through human authors, then it’s just another book. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Paul is very specific, 16 All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped  for every good work. You can choose to believe this is God breathing His words through the authors of His word, or you can choose to reject it. But in the end, these words are the foundation of our faith, which ironically requires faith to believe.

As children, at times we were foolish because of a lack of wisdom, but as we mature in understand of knowledge, we hopefully become wiser and are able to make better decisions. As believers, we should be growing in the same manner. In 2 Timothy 2:22 Paul writes, Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. While running away can sometimes be called cowardly, wisdom dictates that we make wise choices which may require running away from evil.

2015 Day 249 – Francis Chan and his daughter Dellal

I love this video about Francis Chan and his adopted daughter Dellal. It is the perfect picture of us and our relationship with God. We were born sinners, but He adopted us into a redeemed life and relationship with Him.

2015 Day 248 – 2 Timothy 1

Today we begin the second letter from Paul to Timothy. The letter was written to give final instructions and encouragement to Timothy, the pastor of the church at Ephesus. In 2 Timothy 1:7 Paul says, For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of Power, of love and of self-discipline. This is sound advice and gives three characteristics of effective Christian leadership: power, love, and self-discipline. These characteristics are available to us because of the Holy Spirit living in us. By following the Holy Spirit’s leading in us, we grow to display these characteristics more each day.

2015 Day 247 – Hebrews 13

Sacrifice and sharing with others is pleasing to God. As we finish up the book of Hebrews, in Hebrews 13:16 the author clearly spells this out for us, And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Our role on this earth as believers is to be a reflection of God. And since God is good, we should be good. Christ’s command to us before He left the earth was simple; love God and love others.

2015 Day 246 – Hebrews 12

We have all heard God being called “the light of the world”. But God is not a flame coming from a small candle in the middle of a room. Hebrews 12:29 says, For our God is a consuming fire. He is much more like a raging fire that is beyond our control. We cannot force God to comply with our will, we must allow ourselves to be consumed by His. Let us not put our confidence in the things that are destroyed by the fire, but instead let us build our life on Christ and His unshakable foundation.

2015 Day 245 – Hebrews 11

In Hebrews 11:1 faith is described as follows: Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Faith in God begins by believing in His character – He is who He says. The rest comes from believing he will fulfill His promises – He will do exactly what He says He will do. When we believe even when we don’t see the path clearly, we demonstrate true faith.

2015 Day 244 – Hebrews 10

We must be strong in all we do and how we approach serving God while we are on this earth. Hebrews 10:36 says, You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. God loves us and wants us to have a relationship with us that results in a fulfilled life. God’s reward for being faithful to Him results in us receiving His promises.

2015 Day 243 – Hebrews 9

Jesus Christ died as the complete and final sacrifice for our sins. In Hebrews 9:27-28 it says, 27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of the people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Just like we only die once physically, Christ died once so we would not have to die spiritually. We have a confidence He died for our past, present, and future sin, which gives us eternal salvation from spiritual death.
