Eternity, Glory

In today’s reading we find Barnabas and Peter perform a miraculous healing in Lystra. This caused the people to think they were Greek gods. But Paul and Barnabas corrected the men in Acts 14:15, “Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them. It is easy to take the credit for being awesome when we act with God’s help, but we must always remember it is God who gets all the glory in all circumstances. That doesn’t mean we can’t feel good about our accomplishments, we just need to remember the purpose of all we do in the end is to impact eternity.

Eternity, Salvation

Today we read about Paul’s start to his ministry. Paul goes through a lot of explanation about how and why Jesus came to us. Paul also explains why the gospel was made available to the Gentiles and not just the Jews. In Acts 13:46 it says, Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: “We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourself worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.” God planned the light to come from the Jews, but the light spread to all people. Praise God for allowing the light to spread to each of us so we could have eternal life.

When Herod addressed the people about their quarreling, they called him a god and not a man. The results are described in Acts 12:22-23, 22 They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” 23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise  to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died. Pride is a terrible sin and God chose to punish Herod immediately. While God does not punish all sin in this lifetime, He will bring all to judgement. Praise God for He gives us a way out if we simply choose to take it.

Eternity

One of the most beautiful passages in the Gospels comes from the first part of Luke 24:6 which says, He is not here, He is risen! We all could go back to the tomb and look for Jesus, but He simply is not there. Praise God He died and rose again so we all could live eternally.

Eternity, Obedience, Servant

Jesus’ last quote in Matthew 19-20, 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. The Great Commission was stated to the disciples directly, but was meant for all believers. It is not a suggestion, it is a command. But more importantly, it is a privilege to be in God’s will and to be used by Him for an eternal impact. Let us not take it for granted.

Eternity, Love, Salvation

When we accept Christ’s gift of salvation, we no longer have to worry about eternal death. In the beginning of today’s reading Jesus is talking about the final resurrection, but the truth still remains that we are alive in Christ through eternity. Jesus says to the religious leader in Luke 20:38, He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive. If all there is after this life on earth is death, then it would not matter who God is, why He created us, or whether He loves us or not. But God loves us through eternity because we will be alive.

Eternity, Truth

Sacrifice for the kingdom of heaven has more reward than we can ever imagine. Luke 18:29-30 says, 29 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or  brother or parent or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age and, in the age to come, eternal life.” We think our reward lies in earthly possession, but in the end, none of that lasts the test of time. Even some of the greatest architecture in the world built by the Romans over 2,000 years ago will eventually crumble. However, the impact Jesus has on someone’s life will last for eternity.

Jesus talked a lot about the “Bread of Life” today. Most of the religious leaders and people in general had a hard time understanding what Jesus meant by this. In John 6:27 Jesus says, “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” It was hard to grasp what Jesus was saying because most of them thought He was speaking literally. But Jesus was talking about the sacrifice of His life to provide eternal life for all of us. We simply have to believe and accept His gift of His life as the sacrifice that gives us “food that endures to eternity”.

Eternity, Obedience, Relationship, Salvation

Fear is a human emotion we all possess. Even the most hardened soldier experiences fear in the heat of battle. But here in Matthew 10:28, Jesus tells us not to fear those who can only kill our physical bodies, Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. What we should fear is what can kill us for eternity. This can only happen when we submit ourselves to a life apart from God. Jesus gives us salvation to prevent us from separation from God. There are no excuses, just poor choices which keep us from eternity with Him.

Eternity, Grace, Mercy

Today we read about the beginning of Jesus’ ministry according to the Gospel of John. The beauty of Jesus coming to save of is the story each of us share as adopted Children of God. John 1:12 says, Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in  his name, he gave the right to become children of God. As adopted children we all share the same benefits. We are God’s children and we all receive the same inheritance of eternal life with Him.
