Faith, Forgiveness, Freedom, Love, Salvation

When we try to follow all the rules in order to please God, we fail every time. But there is freedom in the Lord according to 2 Corinthians 3:17, Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. When our trust is in Jesus to save us through His sacrifice on the cross, He removes the heavy burden of trying to follow all the rules and the guilt associated with failing to do so. When we trust in Christ we are accepted, forgiven, and free to live our lives the way God intended because we are loved so dearly by Him.

Freedom, Salvation

Looks like I forgot to post yesterday, so today I will do two post to catch up.

We must never take for granted all God did for us by sending His Son to be sacrificed for us. 1 Corinthians 7:23 says, You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of man. Christ paid the price to set us free from the whims of this world that lead us to unfulfilled lives and slavery to sin. Christ set us free; let us not allow ourselves to be placed back into slavery.

2014 Day 258 – Mark 1

Freedom, Obedience

Today, as I was reading, it struck me how the demons were so aware of who Jesus was. In Mark 1:34 it says, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. The awareness of Jesus as the Son of God was very clear to the demons. More over, Jesus had authority over them to keep them quiet. While God has authority over all things, including demons, He allows us to have free will to choose to follow, listen, and obey Him. God has already chosen us, it is up to us to choose Him back.

Freedom, Obedience, Salvation

When Christ came to save us from our sin, He did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. Meaning; God’s commands are still important because they help direct our path, but we are no longer slaves who rely on the Law to save us. Psalm 119:165 says, Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. By using God’s command to help direct our path, we are given clear and safe direction for how we are to exist in this life free from the bondage of sin’s control on our lives.

Freedom, Obedience

It is ironic when we realize how free we are when we are obedient to God. Contrary to what we believe, obeying God does not inhibit us, it frees us to be What God intended us to be. Psalm 119:45 says, I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. Obedience gives us freedom from guilt and gives God the ability to fulfill His plan for our lives.

2014 Day 111 – Ephesians 2

Freedom, Love, Mercy

Because of God’s love and Christ’s sacrifice for us, We are free from sin’s power over us. This is not because our desire to sin has gone away, but because God’s mercy has freed us from the penalty of our sin when it was destroyed on the cross. Ephesians 2:4-5 says, 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. Before we experienced God’s mercy we were slaves to the power of sin in our lives. But now we are alive with Christ and the power of sin no longer dictates who we are or what controls us. We must remember God’s love for us and recognize His mercy comes from that great love.

2013 Day 321 – John 19-21, Psalm 142

Freedom, Power, Protection

Since we are finishing up the book of John, I thought this would be the subject of this post. But when I read the second part of today’s reading, I realized how much I need these verses in Psalm 142 this morning. I found myself repeatedly reading the last two verses of Psalm 142:6-7 6 Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me. 7 Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me. I often give too much time to the things that can hurt me. I find myself giving poor choices in my life too much freedom. In turn, when it comes time to break away, I find it difficult to do. It was not until I read the first part of verse 7, “Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name.” that I realized it is not in my power that I am set free from power of evil, sin, or hurt in my life, but through God’s power. I know this should be common knowledge, but for some reason it resonated with me this morning.
