Glory

In today’s reading, David proclaims God’s glory and power. At the end of the chapter he says in Psalm 68:35, You are awesome, O God, in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God! While times may change, God’s power and ability do not. He deserved our praise during the time of David and He still deserves it today.

2015 Day 199 – Acts 25

Glory, Obedience, Servant

In today’s reading we see Paul is continuing to be held in prison for over two year. He refused to allow the Jews to manipulate the situation against him. In the end, Paul knew the accusations against him were wrong on both the civil and spiritual level. He was not afraid to stand before Caesar for the trumped up charges. Paul also knew all of these situations would be used for God’s glory. As an instrument being used by God, we can be very powerful if we align ourselves with God’s will.

2015 Day 194 – Romans 16

Glory

As Paul finished out the letter to the Romans, he took the time to send greetings and encouragement to the believers. In doing so, he also made sure all glory goes to God. In Romans 16:27 Paul’s last words in the letter are, To the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen. Paul made sure people’s eyes turned to God and His name was glorified. This is a great example to all of us: we need to remember to turn all glory to God. All we are is because of the blessings we receive through Him.

Glory

No matter what we do, we do it for God and His glory. In Romans 14:8 Paul says, If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. No matter how hard or easy life may be for us, we should do all things with glorifying God in mind and bringing people closer to Him.

Glory, Strength

No matter how hard we try, we are nothing without God. All that we are comes from God and His strength working through us. In 2 Corinthians 11:30 Paul says, If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness. The more we admit to our weakness and our source of strength, the more we can point to the One who deserves all the glory.

Glory, Honor, Praise

When we accomplish something great, or even not so great, we want to tell the world and be recognized for it. With social media it is even easier to do this. But recognition can be dangerous because it takes away the glory from God. In 2 Corinthians 10:17-18 Paul tells the Corinthians this: 17 But, “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” 18 For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends. When we accomplish great things, we should give all glory to God and let Him praise us. Praise from God is all that matters.

Glory, Obedience

Let’s not get hung up on what we do or don’t do, but instead do it all for God’s glory. In 1 Corinthians 10:31 Paul says, So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. When we use the following thought, “Is this action glorifying God?” as a guiding principle, our actions will speak for themselves and we don’t have to worry about our individual contribution.

Faith, Glory, Trust

The reality of who Jesus is does not depend on our belief in this truth. However, when we trust and believe in Him our faith allows us to do great things. In Luke 11:25-26 Jesus is talking to Martha about her brother Lazarus’ death, 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” Jesus asked her to trust in Him, not because He needed her faith to perform miracles, but because her faith in Him would fulfill the desires of her heart through the miracle. We see Martha’s answer to Jesus in Luke 11:27, “Yes, Lord,” she told him, “I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.” Even through her suffering, she was able to believe Jesus had the ability to do anything because of who He is. No matter how we feel, or whatever is going on in our lives, we must trust and believe that Jesus has the ability to do all things. This does not mean He will, but has the ability, and is ultimately for His glory.

Glory, Servant

The measure of a good life is not measured by the size of your bank account or the size of your home. Greed is not only a sin, it is also a distraction from making decisions that impact the Kingdom of God versus impacting our own selfish desires. Luke 12:15 says, Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Our worth is not measure by our personal accomplishments, but by the accomplishments that are made by God working through us. Nothing is more important than doing His work and serving others in Jesus name. We must always remember that everything we do should be for God’s glory.

Glory, Reflection

We are not equipped to be a light in this world unless we reflect the only true light that comes from Jesus Christ. Luke 11:36 says, “Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the light of a lamp shines on you.” Nothing feels warmer or brighter in our lives than the light that comes from Christ.
