2015 Day 38 – Matthew 17

Glory, Sacrifice

Have you ever had something revealed to you that had been previously hidden? It is a special moment when you see things the way they are meant to be seen. In Matthew 17:2 Jesus briefly shows His true Self, There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as the light. This was a vision of Jesus’ true glory. It was a special moment for a chosen few to witness who Jesus really was. What struck me most of all about this moment was the fact that Jesus gave up all that glory, even though it was for a moment in the light of eternity, for us.

2015 Day 13 – Mark 3

Glory, Obedience

When we are obedient to God, nothing else matters. This may seem harsh, but we must have the mindset that bringing glory to God is more important than anything else in our lives. Jesus modeled this in Mark 3:33 when His mother and brothers came to see Him, “Who are my mother and my brother’s?” he asked. When it came to serving God the Father, everything else came second. This is a hard notion to comprehend, much less put into practice, but it is the expectation from God’s perspective.

Glory, Honor, Praise

We worry too much about praise from other men and women instead of doing the things that bring honor and glory to God. Jesus points out the same thing out about the Pharisees in John 5:44, “How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?” God is the only measurement that really matters. If we waste our time looking for praise from anyone other than God, we are accomplishing nothing.

Glory, God, Relationship

Have any of you ever heard of “Name it and Claim it”? This is the idea that if we name something in the name of Jesus, He will give it to us. Many people substantiate this idea by claiming John 14:14, You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. The problem is they fail to read the previous verse, John 14:13, And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. It is important to know that Jesus will do anything we ask, not for our glory, but to bring glory to God The Father. When we ask God for help, are we asking for our own selfish gain? Or are we asking so that it may glorify Him and bring others to a personal relationship with Him? Our motives matter.

Glory, Goodness, Righteousness, Servant

When asked, Jesus gave the perfect answer to which of the commandments is most important in Mark 12:30-31, 30 Love the Lord you God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these. God’s laws are not hard. They can be boiled down to two simple things; love God and love others. When we love God and genuinely care for others, then you have fulfilled the intent of the Ten Commandments and bring glory to God.

Glory, God, Obedience

As I read today’s chapter, I could not help but laugh as I read Luke 13:14, Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue ruler said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.” Of all the things Jesus did in the moments leading to the Synagogue ruler’s tantrum, the best the ruler could come up with was a technicality that Jesus healed on a day that was supposed to be for rest. While rest if very important, the Sabbath is meant for our wellbeing and not for our spiritualization of NOT doing something for God. God’s glory, in all we do, is the most important thing. This includes taking any opportunity to do something that glorifies Him in the process. Jesus’ healing of the woman was meant to bring glory to God, but the Synagogue ruler took the opportunity to bring glory to himself and his ability to follow rules. We must never pass up an opportunity to do good and glorify our Heavenly Father.

Glory

It always amazes me how much the life of Jesus Christ was prophesied in the Old Testament. In John 7:42 it says, Does not the Scripture say that the Christ will come from David’s family and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived? The people recognize that prophesy stated the Messiah would come out of Bethlehem. And while Jesus grew up in Galilee, He was born in Bethlehem. When we first read about the story of Jesus Christ’s birth, we wonder why Joseph and Mary took such a detour, but we find out it was to fulfill a prophesy found in Micah 5:2, which was written over 400 years before Jesus’ birth. Nothing God does is an accident; it is all meant to bring glory to Him and His name.

Glory, God

Our pride can be one of the biggest things that hurt us. God has blessed us in this life with knowing who He is and how much power He has to work through each of us. We should never be jealous of what God is doing through other believers. It is all ultimately for His glory. In Luke 9:49-50 Jesus rebukes His disciples, 49 “Master,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.” 50 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.” There is no room for jealousy when we work towards God’s glory as a body of believers. Once we forget about taking credit for victories in the Kingdom of God, we will see more growth than any of us could ever imagine.

Glory, Obedience

As we read today’s passages in Luke 3, we once again we see John the Baptist working through his singular mission of preparing the way for Jesus. John was so focused that he never minced words and when asked a question, he answered directly. When he saw a wrong, including Herod for taking his own brother’s wife, John did not hesitate to expose the truth even though it would eventually cost his life. Part of obedience is taking on the confidence of God to do all he commands and expects us to do for His glory and according to His will.

Glory

In today’s reading the verse that stood out to me is Revelation 10:7 But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.” There are many mysterious things about God. One day all those mysteries will not only be accomplished, they will also make sense. God’s plan is perfect and it all leads to His glory.
