Glory, Obedience

Sometimes doing the right things does not feel good to those around us. Sometimes doing the right things actually offends others. David is a great example of someone who does the right thing despite what those around him may think. When David rejoiced and looked foolish in the eyes of his wife, he knew it was more important to please God than to please anyone around him. When we make our choices, we should always make them to please and glorify God no matter what the consequences may be.

2013 Day 35 – Exodus 25-27, Proverbs 5

Glory, God

As I read this mornings passages in Exodus, I kept thinking how tedious it was just reading it. Then I realized how tedious it must have been to actually build it. I like to do woodworking when I have a spare moment and I know how much effort it takes to build something of quality and precision. How much more it must have been to build something to the glory of God? It’s not enough to do things for God as a “check mark” and to simply say we completed a task. We must remember when we do things for a righteous God we are doing it for His glory. We must take the time and effort to bring glory to Him and be a reflection of His perfection.

2013 Day 16 – Genesis 40-42, Psalm 14

Glory, Praise

There is a lot going on in today’s reading about Joseph. The part that stood out to me, and one of the things I love about Joseph is found in Genesis 41:16, “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.” No matter how much power Joseph received, he never forgot to give God the glory. Even when given the reputation of someone who interprets dreams, he gives God all the glory as the One who blessed him with the ability to satisfy the needs of Pharaoh. This is a great reminder to me; when I think I am doing something awesome, I need to remember the One who gave me the ability to do it in the first place.

Glory, Honor, Repentance

For our first reflection day, I wanted to share a video someone shared with me a few years ago. This is Reverend David Wilkerson’s soul-stirring sermon on the necessity of anguish – to bear God’s heart, passion, and burden within our lives. It is lest than 8 minutes long and is one of the more powerful messages I have heard in a while. I’d love to hear your comments on it.

Glory

When the end of days finally comes all prophesy will be revealed. Verse 7 says, But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets. We need not worry about when all prophesy is fulfilled, we simply need to trust in God that He will provide us with all the answers when the time is right. All prophesy is for His glory, not ours.

2012 Day 226 – Psalm 115, 135

Glory

Psalm 115:1 stood out to me this morning, Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. Before I pray and ask God for anything, I need to ask myself, “If God answers my prayer, who will get the glory?” I need to always strive to give God the glory for everything that is good in my life. Without His many blessings my life would be empty.

2012 Day 202 – 2 Corinthians 13

Glory, Power

Paul ends the book of 2 Corinthians reminding us that even though we are weak as humans we are still strong through the power of the Father. Verse 4 states it well, For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him to serve you. Christ is the ultimate example of allowing weakness so that God’s power can shine through. Even in the crucifixion of Christ, the power of God ultimately won. Think about how this applies to us. If we are willing to humble ourselves to realize our weakness and turn over the glory and power to God, how much more could we accomplish in this life. The key is to remember we are not the ones accomplishing it, but the Father through us.

2012 Day 199 – 2 Corinthians 10

Glory, Praise

Our sole purpose in life should be to find favor from God. We all want to be recognized for the good things we do. The problem comes when we look for recognition from the people around us instead of the Father. Verses 17-18 says it well, But, “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends. It is so much better to receive praise from God than it is from people. He loves us and wants to give us praise. He knows we aren’t perfect, nor does He expect us to be, but He does want us to recognize that all glory belongs to Him.

Glory, Relationship

The last verse in this chapter caught my eye this morning. Verse 18 says, And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever‑increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. The notes in my Bible talks about the glory that Moses experienced when he was in the presence of God and how much more glory the Spirit imparts on believers. By gazing with unveiled minds at the glory of God through the Spirit, we can be more like Him. As that glory penetrates us and allows us to build a deeper relationship with God, we understand how wonderful God is and what He is really like. This helps us change in a progressive experience to become more like Him.

Glory

Today’s reading is an interesting addition to yesterday’s commentary when I mentioned the importance of not forcing the world to take on my personal view of Christianity. Today the chapter ultimately talks about the purpose of all we do, which is to bring glory to God. Verses 31-33 sum up this thought nicely. 31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32 Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God– 33 even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved. If we focus our attention on bringing glory to God, His glory will draw people to Him. The important thing to remember is that I am a reflection of Christ. I can be a mirror or I can skew what is real. It is my choice and my job as a believer to allow God’s power to show the world what He wants them to see.
