2014 Day 302 – Matthew 15

Goodness, Obedience

People get very caught up in doing what they think is right vs what is wrong and trying to pin God’s approval to it. Jesus made clear what makes us unclean in God’s eyes. Matthew 15:18, But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ There are consequences to making bad decisions for our lives, but spiritual ‘cleanliness’ comes from the condition of our heart. And the heart is reflected through the words we speak and in the manner in which we speak it.

Goodness

What good does it do to worry about things we cannot control? In Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭34 Jesus says, Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.‬ When we trust that God is in control, we don’t have to worry about tomorrow because it is all part of His perfect plan.

Goodness, Reflection

Most people who know me know I am a huge New York Yankees fan. I was born in New York City and have loved the Yankees my whole life. While I know the attached video is not a spiritual one, it shows Derek Jeter, who is retiring this year, as a man and player who is highly respected by anyone and everyone who loves baseball no matter how you feel about the Yankees. God can change any man or woman to be more like Him. And it takes special people like Derek Jeter to be examples of what it means to be a good man. I don’t know where Derek Jeter is spiritually, but I thank God that He puts men like him to show others what it means to be good. I hope you enjoy the video. #Jeter #Re2pect

2014 Day 190 – Revelation 18

Goodness, Love

Not sure what to say about today’s reading in Revelation 18 other than God uses Babylon as the example of how He will punish for the evils of this world. For our application today, we need to remember to be contributors of good and not evil. This world does not need help adding evil, it needs more people who shine a light of goodness and reflect the love of Christ.

Goodness, Righteousness

In 1 Timothy 3:16 Paul delivers a short hymn that affirms both the humanity and divinity of Christ. Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory. In this hymn Paul is able to reveal the mystery of godliness which is also the secret to how we become godly and how Christ set the stage for us. Through Christ we are able to live godly lives because He has given us both the example and power to do so.

Goodness

I love the simple truth of 2 Thessalonians 3:13 And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good. Doing the right thing should never get tiresome to us. When we see persistent evil in this world we must be the counter to it. We are to be a reflection of our God.

Goodness, Reward, Servant

Doing the right thing never gets old. While the rewards may not always be seen right away, they are always built into the act of goodness. Galatians 6:9 says, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. No matter what the outcome, we must never get tired of doing what is right and good to please God by serving others. Our reward may not be realized in this lifetime, but it will come.

Compassion, Goodness

Our church has been going through the Fruits of the Spirit these last few weeks. One of the videos we share when we talked about Goodness is about a 9 year old boy who built an elaborate cardboard arcade in his dad’s used auto parts store. Through the goodness of a complete stranger, he was able to experience the best day of his life, and in turn, inspire the world. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did. Goodness, Love

This past week, our pastor spoke about Goodness as one of the Fruits of the Spirit. He used the attached video of Robert McQuilken, who was the President of Columbia Bible College. After 40 years of marriage he found himself torn between to commitments after his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. This is a very touching video that moved me. I hope it is as meaningful to you.
