Isaiah 59:1 hit me right between the eyes today, Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. When we think no one can help us, we must remember that God is able. He may choose to wait, but He is able to do anything including perform miracles. We must never stop asking God for help and we must never stop expecting God to act in our lives. No task is ever too big or too small because He loves us.

Today we begin the final book of the Bible, Revelation, which is written by the Apostle John. We have exactly 11 day of reading left for this year and I’m not gonna lie, this is a tough book to get through. However, it is important to remember this is not just a book about the end times and God’s ultimate judgement; it is a book of hope as well. It is a reminder that God is in control and in the end, He wins! Let us try to read this as a book of God’s perfect control.

As we continue our reading in Ezekiel, the book begins to make a switch from condemnation to painting a picture of hope. In the beginning of the book, Ezekiel told the Israelites of their destruction. Now he begins to proclaim the hope of restoration. Even though the Israelites listen to Ezekiel, they continue to live their lives as they please. We may look at the Israelites and think how foolish they are, but the truth is we often do the same thing. While we know the message of forgiveness, we still live sinful lives. Thank God for His forgiveness and grace. Let us not live lives which take it for granted.

Job 13:5 actually made me smile, If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom. Job was downright unhappy with the lack of empathy and understanding by his so-called friends had for him. Job knew he had not anything that deserved the suffering he was experiencing. In Job 13:15 he says, Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face. Deep down inside he knew God was still with him and that he ultimately did not deserve the punishment he was receiving, but he still had hope. This is a lesson for all of us. Always have hope in God through every trial we face for He never leaves us.

In 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, Paul tells us, while we think we may be at the end of our rope, we are never at the end of our hope in God, 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. God never abandons us no matter how alone we may feel.

Today we start the book of 2 Corinthians. Verse 15 stood out to me, For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. What a great description of what we are supposed to be, an aroma to both the saved and unsaved. To the saved we to be a sweet aroma of like-mindedness and encouragement in the body of Christ. And to those who choose to reject Christ we will probably smell foul. Too often we try to make ourselves more appealing to the unsaved. It is not our job to make ourselves into anything more than what Christ has done to us and for us. We are simply to point people to Christ and be a reflection of Him; that is all. It is up to them to accept or reject His saving grace.

2013 Day 193 – 1 Chronicles 9-11, Ecclesiastes 11

Once again, the few short verses of Ecclesiastes spoke to me today. This time, the verse that stood out was Ecclesiastes 11:8, However many years anyone may live, let them enjoy them all. But let them remember the days of darkness, for there will be many. Everything to come is meaningless. God never promised us a painless existence here on earth. In fact, Solomon says there will be many dark days. But we must remember to enjoy the years God has given us. This is a moment of our existence in eternity.

2013 Day 149 – My Last Days: Meet Zach Sobiech

This is the story of Zach Sobiech. Zach passed away recently at the young age of 18 after battling a rare for of cancer since the age of 14. The video is a bit long, but I would highly recommend you find the time towatch and really reflect on what is important in your life. This video challenged me to look at my life and find a way to live as if today could be my last day. I hope you are moved by it and I suggest you have a box of tissues near by.

This video simply made me think. I’m 45 years old and the older I get, the more I think about eternity. The truth is that none of us make it out of this life alive. We have to be OK with knowing this life is temporary but the things we choose to spend our time on have eternal consequences.

I love reading Romans 15:13, May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. The more we trust in God, the more we can have peace and joy in our lives. I have often thought about how different my life would be without God in my life. I honestly do not know what my life would be like without Him. He has given me comfort through some of the worst times in my life. When I felt all alone I always knew He was right there beside me with His arms wrapped around me and telling me it would be ok. May we always feel God’s presence in our lives no matter how alone we may be.
