Faith, Forgiveness, Hope, Relationship

Today for our reflection day, I was inspired by a friend’s blog post that I read this morning to find something that related to our story and how it relates to our relationship with God. I came across this video and thought it was worth sharing. I’ll be honest, I am not sure of its origin and I hope its OK that I have chosen to ignore it in order to look to the message it delivers. In Psalm 139:14-15 it says, 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. This is the importance of the message, that we are made for a purpose and to take part in the wonderful story of God which continues on to eternity. I hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.

2012 Day 338 – Revelation 6

Hope, Protection

In today’s reading verse 15 jumped out at me, Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. In the end, it doesn’t matter if you are royalty, rich, slave, or free; every man and woman will know who really sits on the throne. I know that things will probably get worse before they get better, but God is and always will be in control.

2012 Day 291 – 1 Peter 1

Hope, Salvation

I always love reading Peter’s letters, not just because of the substance, but also because he was an actual disciple of Jesus. Every time I read these books I think to myself, “not bad for a fisherman, there is still hope for me.” This first letter was written when Christians are being heavily persecuted and executed by Nero. Paul himself would eventually be executed during this persecution. Paul works hard to encourage the believers and reminds them of the permanence of their purification through Christ in their salvation. In verse 23 Peter says, For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. The encouragement of the imperishable salvation through Christ is what should keep each of us encouraged in knowing our hardship here on earth is temporary but our salvation is eternal.

Grace, Hope, Redeemer

Depending how you choose to look at it, verse 23 will either give you hope or despair, until you read on to verse 24, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. I feel an incredible amount of hope in these verses. God already knows I have fallen short of what He requires of me to be justified. But because of the redemption I receive from Christ, I am justified in the eyes of God. I get very frustrated when I realize I am so weak and so full of sin. Sometimes it’s hard to feel I am redeemed by Christ’s sacrifice. However, when I read verses like this, I am reassured that redemption comes to all who repent and accept grace; giving me hope through these verses.

Faith, Hope, Reward

Verse 6 is always a very convicting verse to me, Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. The Corinthian church was assured by Paul that God would meet all their needs. In the same way, my lack of faith is the only limiting factor to God’s provision. If I allow fear to keep me from giving freely, then I shouldn’t be surprised when I receive a limited amount of blessings. We should give generously (time, energy, money, etc.) if we are to receive generously.

Faith, Grace, Hope, Mercy

Psalm 146:2-3 is such a good reminder that our trust should never be in men (or women) but in God alone. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. And if that’s not enough, verse 4 tells us why… When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing./strong> Men cannot help us. They are just like us; flawed, imperfect, and will return to dust just like us when they die. Only the creator of the universe can truly help and wants nothing more than to help us fully. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” – Revelation 1:8

Faith, Hope, Love

A couple of days ago we talked about how Paul modified his approach to sharing the Gospel based on his setting. Paul’s approach, while very bold, never moved to a forceful method of reaching people. In verse 3 we see the underlying method and outcome of Paul’s approach; We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. Nowhere does it say your “reach powered by force”. We must have faith in God which produces labor powered by love and endures because of the hope we have in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. This seems like a pretty good formula to me.

Disciples, Fellowship, Hope, Love

Today’s reading shows Jesus’ heart clearly as He prays to His Father in heaven. Jesus takes the time to not only lift up His disciples, but also to lift up future believers. In verse 9, speaking about the disciples, He says, “I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.” How beautiful and reassuring for Jesus to lift up His disciples and clearly make a distinction of who really belonged to Him. Then in verse 20 Jesus talks about us, the future generations, “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,” It is comforting and humbling to know He lifted us up in prayer to the Father. It makes a big difference in my day knowing I am loved and that I am covered in prayer.

Hope, Salvation

The illustration of “salt” is such a good one. In verse 50 Jesus says, “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other.” We are to give flavor to the world and give it purpose. Sometime as Christians we believe we are supposed to be separate from all that goes on in the world. The truth is we are here to take part in the world and bring purpose to our human existence. We should never approach our lives here on earth with worry or fear, but with boldness in knowing we reflect the hope of Christ.
