2016 Day 12 – John 5

Love, Servant

There are no rules around doing what is right and Jesus exemplified this at every opportunity. In John 5:17 Jesus makes it clear that rules do not supersede taking care of those in need, Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.” Let us never hide behind traditions and liturgy in place of doing what is right. If we need to shut down the church on Sunday in order to feed and clothe the poor, then let’s do that.

2015 Day 341 – Psalm 63

Love

There is nothing better than the love God has for each and every one of us. In Psalm 63:3 David says, Because you love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. God deserves to be glorified. Even our existence is less important than the love God has for each of us. We should be willing to give up our lives because of God’s love for us. And we should be openly sharing about God’s love for us because it is the best thing about our very existence.

Justice, Love, Praise

In today’s Psalm we read a poem written by The Sons of Korah (temple assistants), most likely for Solomon’s wedding. While this is mostly historic, it is also seen as prophetic about Christ and His bride, the church. It is a reflection of our praise for Him through all generations and into eternity. Psalm 45:6 says, Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.

Love, Thanksgiving

God’s love is infinitely big, and if nothing else, we should be eternally thankful for this alone. Psalm 107:1 says, Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. If we truly believe this, then we should want to shout it from the mountaintops.

Love

In our reading today, Psalm 136 is all about God’s never ending love. As the author talks about all God has done for the people of Israel, he caps every verse with “His love endures forever”, because it does.

Love

Today we read the smallest chapter in the Bible, Psalm 117, 1 Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. 2 For great is his love towards us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord. God’s love is limitless. He is capable of loving the entire world no matter how much it loves Him back. God’s love is limitless.

Love, Obedience, Peace

Every time I read Proverbs 31:30 I think of my precious wife, Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. While I truly believe my wife is beautiful both inside and out, what I love about her the most is she loves the Lord above all else.

Love, Relationship

Our accomplishments in this world make us no more or less important in God’s eyes. Proverbs 22:2 says, Rich and poor have this is common: The Lord is the Maker of them all. God created us all equally and loves us all just the same.

Love, Obedience

Nothing in our lives is hidden from God. We may be able to hide certain things from people around us, even those closest to us, but God sees it all. Proverbs 5:21 For a man’s ways are in full view of the Lord, and He examines all his paths. Our path and the things we do in this life are in full view of the Lord and yet God still loves us unconditionally.

Love, Obedience

When you boil it all down, God’s command to us is simple; love others the way he loves us. 2 John 1:6 says, And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. If we are obedient to God, then we are to walk in love, which means we are to love others. It is one of the simplest and yet hardest things to do.
