2016 Day 1 – Matthew 3

Obedience, Relationship

It is sometimes difficult to remember that Jesus was both the Son of God and God. It is a difficult concept to understand the trinity, but the important thing to remember is that God the Father was proud of God His Son. After Jesus was baptized, God responded in Matthew 3:17, And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. God the Father not only showed pleasure and support for His Son, He also showed that He owned the relationship. As a reflection of Christ, we should be striving for God’s pleasure in us as well.

2015 Day 356 – Luke 1

Faith, Obedience

As we approach the last few days before Christmas I thought it would be a good time to begin reading about the birth of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Today we will begin in Luke 1. For the most part, this is the story of John the Baptist’s birth, but it also talks about Mary and the story of how the angel Gabriel notified her of her role in the birth of Christ. Gabriel’s message required Mary and Elizabeth to have tremendous amounts of faith and obedience. The possibilities surrounding pregnancy of a woman who had been barren her whole like and of a young virgin would obviously require miraculous occurrences. Yet, both women believed and took their roles seriously and with honor. How many of us would be willing to believe the impossible when it comes to God providing for us in miraculous ways?

2015 Day 351 – Psalm 15

Obedience, Relationship

In today’s reading David goes through a long list of things required by man to be on solid foundation with God. He finishes the end of Psalm 15:5 with, He who does these things will never be shaken. Do not be mistaken, these are not requirements for salvation, they are requirements for living a blameless life and in turn a life in relationship with God, our Heavenly Father.

2015 Day 309 – Psalm 138

Obedience, Relationship

God loves everyone equally. But unless we recognize His majesty, we do not place ourselves in a position where He can lead us according to His will for our lives. In Psalm 138:6 David says, Though the Lord is on high, he looks upon the lowly, but the proud he knows from afar. Those who are too proud to place God in the proper position of power and authority will miss out on God’s closeness.

Obedience, Protection

None of us are perfect and we will all sin at some point. But we must not allow our lives to be controlled by sin. Psalm 119:133 says, Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. When we listen to God’s Word and allow ourselves to be directed by Him, sin can no longer rule over us.

Obedience, Trust

We must not be afraid to ask God to bless us and to teach us. Psalm 119:65-66 says, 65 Do good to your servant according to your word, O Lord. 66 Teach me knowledge and good judgement, for I believer in your commands. If we believe God is good and able to make us better people, then we must ask Him to help us. Change does not just happen on its own, it takes desire, effort, and a willing heart that is not afraid to ask God to change us.

Faith, Obedience, Relationship, Truth

Psalm 119 is the longest book of the Bible and it hold an immense amount of truths. Which is why we will break this chapter up over the next four days.

Relationship with God comes from spending time with Him in His word and in Prayer. And there is no better way to have God close to you that to have His words memorized. Psalm 119:11 says, I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Hidden (keeping) is a perfect way to keeping sin at bay. For this reason we should all be inspired to memorize scripture. But memorizing it alone will not deter sin if we do not put it to work in our lives. This is why we say God’s word is a “living” word. It should be a guide for every day of our lives.

Love, Obedience, Peace

Every time I read Proverbs 31:30 I think of my precious wife, Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. While I truly believe my wife is beautiful both inside and out, what I love about her the most is she loves the Lord above all else.

Obedience, Peace, Righteousness

Living a righteous life is pleasing to God, but there is also a practical purpose; to live free from entrapment of sin over our lives. Proverbs 29:6 says, An evil man is snared by his own sin, but a righteous one can sing and be glad. There is peace in living a righteous life.

Faith, Obedience

Riches are meaningless in the eyes of the Lord. Proverbs 28:6 says, Better a poor man whose walk is blameless than a rich man whose ways are perverse. God does not need our money. What He wants is our obedience and our willingness to be used by Him to impact the lives of others for eternity.
