Faith, Peace

When the world around us seems out of control, remember God owns all of it. He created it and could destroy it if He desired. In Psalm 24:1 David says, The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. There is a sense of peace knowing who is in control and knowing how much He loves us and wants what is ultimately best for us.

Comfort, Peace, Trust

It is easy to talk to the people around us when we are struggling, but there is nothing better than taking it directly to God. Psalm 118:8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is futile to trust in anything more than the one who create us. God knows our circumstances better than us and He is the only one who has the ability to change it or give us peace.

Hope, Peace

As we reflect on last night’s tragedy in Paris, today’s Psalm brought to mind what the people of Paris must be going through after such a brutal attack on their city. Psalm 137:1 says, By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. We must never forget evil exists. Nothing is permanent including the most powerful governments of this world. Our hope, peace, and comfort comes only from God and our relationship with Him.

Joy, Peace

Whether it is physically in a church building or figuratively in prayer and communication with God, we find comfort in being in the presence of the Lord. Psalm 84:4 Blesses are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. True joy is found when we find a way to be in God’s presence.

Contentment, Peace, Trust

In today’s reading, God Himself proclaims in Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” No matter what is breaking around us we can know that even if we sit still and do nothing, God is in control. Our peace comes from God and God alone. The sooner we realize that, the happier and more content we will be.

Love, Obedience, Peace

Every time I read Proverbs 31:30 I think of my precious wife, Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. While I truly believe my wife is beautiful both inside and out, what I love about her the most is she loves the Lord above all else.

Obedience, Peace, Righteousness

Living a righteous life is pleasing to God, but there is also a practical purpose; to live free from entrapment of sin over our lives. Proverbs 29:6 says, An evil man is snared by his own sin, but a righteous one can sing and be glad. There is peace in living a righteous life.

Peace, Wisdom

I am guilty more than most of speaking what is on my mind before fully thinking through the consequences. Proverbs 12:18 says, Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. I need to be more careful of the way I express my thoughts and feelings. While my feelings my be valid, my verbalization of those feels may bring more harm than good. My words should heal, not hurt, and I am responsible for the consequences either way.

Love, Peace

Life is often overwhelming and sometimes hard to know how we will make it through. In 1 Peter 5:7 Peter says, Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for for you. God loves us so much that he wants us to place our burdens in His care. He did this with our sins when He died on the cross and He wants to do it now with the things that stress us out and worry us. Trust God and He will comfort us and provide us peace.

Encouragement, Faith, Peace, Trust

Today we read one of the strongest and most encouraging passages in the Bible; The Armor of God. In this passage, Paul gives us all the tools we need to do battle against the forces that are against us in this world. In Ephesians 6:13-18 Paul describes what the Armor of God looks like, 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
