Power, Trust

Paul reminds us today we may feel like we have reached the end of our rope, but we are never done because God is with us always. In 2 Corinthians 4:8 Paul says, We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We may be weak, but God chooses to use us anyway by displaying His power through us if we just believe. God will be glorified as long as we are willing to be used by Him.

Power, Trust

Without God, the creator of the universe, there is nothing. He is all that matters and we are nothing without Him. In 1 Corinthians 3:7 Pauls says, So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. God chooses to use us to impact His kingdom. But without His active participation nothing happens. We must be thankful for His hand in all things, from the simple to the complex.

Faith, Power

When we feel the presence of Jesus in our lives, we are brave. The Holy Spirit is our true source of power when we choose to focus on Him instead of our own weak abilities. In Mark 14:38 Jesus rebukes His disciples for allowing their weakness to overshadow the power of the Spirit, Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The Spirit is willing, but the body is weak. When we focus on the purpose God has given us, our faith will lead us to know we are weak and need the strength of the Holy Spirit to strengthen us.

Faith, Healing, Power, Trust

Today we read what the fuss was all about with the birth of Jesus Christ. While no one knew Jesus was the Messiah at the time, there was very little uncertainty about His power and willingness to help the needy. Mark 1:34 sums it up, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. Jesus not only healed, but He was strategic about it. He knew that once word got out about His power and willingness to help, it would be nearly impossible to move about freely. Later on we read how difficult it was for Jesus to move about, but it was His compassion and love that drove Him to the people to love and heal them.

Power, Salvation

There is only one way to salvation and it is through a relationship with God. In Psalm 62:2 David says, He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. When we take our eyes off of God, and our relationship with Him, we are swayed in every direction. But when we stand on the power of God, we cannot be moved.

God created us for Him to do great things through us. In Ephesians 2:10 Paul says, For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. We are His great works of art and we are to treat ourselves and others as such. We are to respect and love one another as God intended and we are to serve each other as well. We have everything we need through all God has provided to us.

Holy Spirit, Peace, Power

When we lack control over our emotions, we tend to do stupid things. But Paul urges the Thessalonians to never tire of doing what is right. Paul say in 2 Thessalonians 3:13, And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right. The same advice goes to us. Never tire of doing the right thing even when the world pushes you into doing what is wrong. Remember to turn to God and the Holy Spirit for guidance and strength.

Knowledge, Power, Truth, Wisdom

In this first letter to the Thessalonian church, Paul is addressing a relatively new church of believers, having only been established two to three years earlier. These believers were remote from the epicenter of the Christian faith, and they were doing the best they could with the knowledge they had. In addition, they were also being persecuted for their faith. Paul wrote this letter to encourage and to strengthen the Thessalonian Christians in their faith. And, as with the message in the rest of the Bible, this letter is timeless for all of us. We may not be struggling with the same issues as this early church, but we all face struggles and need encouragement from time to time. Sometimes we are the encouragers and sometimes we are the ones needing encouragement. In either case, God and His strength are at the center of it all.

Authority, Power, Protection

Jesus showed boldness and authority even knowing His life was coming to an end. When Pilate asked Jesus if He knew how much authority he had, this was Jesus’ reply in John 19:11, Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.” While earthly men may have had power over Jesus’ human body, they did not have control over His authority given to Him by His Father. When life takes us to a point where we feel out of control, we must remember that nothing Has authority over our Creator and Heavenly Father.

2014 Day 327 – Francis Chan: We Grossly Underestimate God

Obedience, Power

I’ve shared this video before but I thought it was worth another look. We tend to limit God’s ability to use us for His glory and for eternity. But God wants to use each and every one of us for great things. We don’t always feel like it, but God commanded us to be available for the small and big things.
