2016 Day 309 – Psalm 7

In today’s Psalm, David is once again asking God to deliver justice to the wicked.  Psalm 7:9 says, O righteous God, who searches hearts and minds, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. God is not fooled by the wicked and He does not lack the will to protect the righteous. God is loving and kind, but He will not sit back and allow evil to go without judgement. It is OK for us to ask Him for intervention and protection from the evils of this world.

Mercy, Protection

We can all rest assured when we call God, He hears us. In Psalm 4:3 David says, Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord will hear when I call him. As believers we should all be confident in God’s willingness to hear our call for help because of His love for us.

Love, Protection

God’s power cannot be contained, but He is able to protect us and be with us no matter where we are. In Psalm 3:4 David says, To the Lord I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill. When we need Him, He is there. There is no hesitation from the Lord when we need Him.

Faith, Protection

How many of us are willing to pray the following to God in Proverbs 29:7-9? 7 Two things I ask of you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die: 8 Keep falsehood and lies from me; give me neither poverty or riches, but give me only my daily bread. 9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. Asking God for just what we need and deliberating asking Him to not give us too much, is a difficult prayer to consider. But trusting God to provide only what we need would be a true step of faith.

Love, Protection, Trust

Finding people we can trust is much easier said than done. But Proverbs 18:24 says: A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Though it may seem impossible, pray that God provides people in our lives we can trust and know they will be closer than our own family. God will use trusted companions to help shape us and lead us to live life according to God’s perfect plan for us.

Love, Protection

One of the beautiful things about being a believer is we have a loving God to lean on when things fall apart around us. Proverbs 14:32 reminds us: When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous have a refuge. Those who stand alone without God have nothing to hold them up when everything is falling apart around them. But the Father is always with those who believe and choose to lean on Him, even when things go south, He is there to love us and hold us up in the storm.

Protection

What we allow in our heart dictates, to a great extent, how we live our lives. In Proverbs 4:23 it says, Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. If we cannot control the desires of our heart, we are at risk of desiring things that can destroy us. By guarding ourselves we are protecting ourselves from potential destruction.

Protection, Relationship

We have to keep ourselves close to God and to build a relationship with Him. Jude 1:21 says, Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. To keep ourselves close means to live in close relationship to God and other believers like us.

Love, Protection, Trust

In today’s reading, Paul begins with a very detailed warning to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:1-5: 1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. If we read this thoroughly, it reminds us of the world we live in today. Sadly, it is the same world we have always lived in. It is not meant to be perfect, but God is and He loves us and protects us just the same.

Protection

We cannot expect to face the evils of this world if we do not stand behind God’s protection. In Ephesians 6:13 Paul says, Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. God’s armor protects us if we choose to look for His guidance and protection through the minefield of life.
