2013 Day 92 – Deuteronomy 31-34, Psalm 49

Faith, Relationship

Today we finished the fifth and final book of the laws. There is so much information to grasp, but the big message I kept hearing over and over was how much God loves His people. I know it sounds like a ton of death and destruction and consequences, but the main message to me is that God never leaves His people. He even told Moses in Deuteronomy 31:16, And the Lord said to Moses: “You are going to rest with your ancestors, and these people will soon prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them. Even though God knew these people would turn their backs on Him repeatedly, God never left them. The same thing goes for us; God will never leave us no matter how bad we are or how far we stray. He loves us and wants nothing but what is best for us.

Relationship

In today’s reading in Deuteronomy, Moses continues to remind the Israelites everything The Lord has shown and taught them since leaving Egyptian captivity. The book of Deuteronomy continues to be a good example of the types of reflection we should have in our own lives. It is important to remember the victories in life, but it is also important to reflect on the trials and failure so we can learn from them. God never promised a simple or easy life, but He did promise He would always be with us through it all.

2013 Day 82 – Deuteronomy 8-10, Psalm 42

Relationship

In today’s reading, the first two verses in Psalm 42 are some of the most poetic in the Bible (in my opinion), 1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? It is such a powerful picture of what our longing for God should be.

2013 Day 80 – Self Worth: Where are you?

Faith, Forgiveness, Hope, Relationship

Today for our reflection day, I was inspired by a friend’s blog post that I read this morning to find something that related to our story and how it relates to our relationship with God. I came across this video and thought it was worth sharing. I’ll be honest, I am not sure of its origin and I hope its OK that I have chosen to ignore it in order to look to the message it delivers. In Psalm 139:14-15 it says, 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. This is the importance of the message, that we are made for a purpose and to take part in the wonderful story of God which continues on to eternity. I hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.

Relationship

I honestly did not get a lot out of today’s reading, but I did gain more respect for Moses and his relationship with God. God blessed him immensely with the personal relationship they shared. God even went so far as to tell Moses when he would be taken up to heaven. Moses knew, because of a previous disobedient act, that he would not see the promised land, but God still blessed him with the knowledge of where his limits would be. We should all strive to have the same type of close relationship Moses had with God.

2013 Day 73 – John Piper – Why Memorize Scripture?

Knowledge, Power, Protection, Relationship

Today I want to share a short video with John Piper talking about a topic that hits very close to home in convicting me. While I have become very proficient over these last few years at spending time in God’s word every day, I am not good at memorizing His word. This video is a great reminder of why we should be memorizing scripture. I hope you enjoy it. Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

2013 Day 63 – Hebrews 11-13, Psalm 27

Faith, Relationship

Hebrews 12:2 says it all for me today, Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Our attention should not be on anything other than Jesus. He deserves our attention and honor through everything we do. We will never be outside His will and His perfect plan if we seek Him before we ever do anything else.

The other verse that stood out to me was Hebrews 13:8, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. When we talk about the changing of our relationship with Jesus, it is us who changes, not Him. He loves us the same and it is up to us to allow Him into our lives to experience everything He wants to do for us.

Grace, Mercy, Relationship

I’m not gonna lie to you, reading through Leviticus is not easy. There is so much information that is not longer relevant to us today. But I keep reminding myself that there is purpose in all of God’s word. All of these laws were meant to cleanse the people of their unrighteousness and to keep them safe. More importantly it was meant to remind us how much we are in need of God’s mercy and grace in our lives. While it may be tedious to read through this, imagine how tedious it would be to actually follow these laws. Let us all be thankful that God has provided us with salvation and a means to true relationship with Him through His son Jesus.

Relationship

We are back to the Old Testament laws as we begin the book of Leviticus. While I know this is mundane and tedious, it is meant to remind us of what is required by our holy God. If it were not for the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, we would all be subject to the requirements of these laws. But let us not be mistaken, God is still holy. He still deserves and requires our respect and a humble heart when we come before His presence.

2013 Day 46 – Acts 13-15, Proverbs 11:16-31

Love, Obedience, Relationship

Today’s reading in the book of Acts focused on the beginning of Paul’s ministry to the Gentiles. While there are many examples of this throughout this book, what stood out to me the most was the Apostle’s perseverance. Though they were rejected, misunderstood, and even beaten at times, they never lost sight of what they were doing, why they were doing it, and Who they were doing it for. May we all keep our eyes on our purpose in life. We are here to serve God by serving people and to draw them closer to Him; everything else is of less importance.

The other important thing to remember is that we are here to work and it is for God’s glory, not ours, that we do what we do. If we do His work and find it to be a thankless job, then we are right where we need to be. Our reward and thanks are in heaven. This is one of the hardest things I personally need to accept, but it is exactly the intent and purpose of my existence here on earth.
