2016 Day 361 – Psalm 51

Grace, Mercy, Relationship, Salvation

We are all aware of our sinful nature. Some people choose to ignore it or blame their environment or circumstances, and some look for grace, mercy, and a changed heart. In Psalm 51:10 David says, Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Let David be our example of looking to God for a changed heart and a desire for righteousness through a relationship with Him.

Relationship

The poetry of Psalm 42:1 is beautiful, As a deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. David recognized water was a necessity for life. He also recognized that God is just as important as water in our lives. We must all crave God and a relationship with Him as much as we crave anything that gives us life.

Prayer, Relationship

In my opinion, the best time to spend time in prayer is first thing in the morning. It is when our minds are most clear from the stress of the day. In Psalm 5:3 David says, In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. When we set our mind right with God in the morning and we lay our needs at His feet, we then have the entire day to wait and see Him answer our prayers.

Love, Relationship, Wisdom

As a society we give to much value to physical beauty; but true beauty comes from the inside. Proverbs 31:30 says, Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. There is nothing more beautiful than a woman who loves the Lord, and because of that Love and relationship with Him, has unquestionable character and integrity. We need to reevaluate our societal standards and give respect and honor to the things that matter. Physical beauty will only go so far and will not last forever, but our love of God lasts for eternity.

Protection, Relationship

We have to keep ourselves close to God and to build a relationship with Him. Jude 1:21 says, Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. To keep ourselves close means to live in close relationship to God and other believers like us.

Power, Relationship

Our ability to grow does not come from our own efforts, it comes from a relationship with God and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  2 Peter 1:3 says, His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Christ called us to to a relationship with Him first, not the other way around. It is through His power we receive everything we need.

Grace, Love, Mercy, Relationship

We all need help sometimes and we all need grace when we fail. While many people around us are incapable of granting grace, God’s grace is unlimited. Hebrews 4:16 says: Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. When we come into the presence of God, He has already forgiven us. He loves us and wants an authentic relationship with us that can only be possible through forgiveness because of the blood of Christ. Let us never take that for granted.

Love, Relationship

What an amazing freedom we have to approach God directly through our individual prayers. In Ephesians 3:12 Paul says, In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. Because of Christ, we have the ability to approach God directly through prayer. We are not hindered or limited by an intermediary. Praise God for the privilege of having a direct and loving relationship with Him.

Love, Relationship, Thanksgiving

God’s provision for us is not easily quantified. We see some of His work in our lives, but the full scope of His provision is difficult to fully see. In 2 Corinthians 9:15 Paul says, Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! These are accurate words to describe what God gives to us. We see very little, but He is always with us and He is constantly doing work in us. Thanks be to Him.

Love, Relationship, Salvation

God calls us to love the world and be a reflection of His love, but He does not call us to be a part of the world. In 2 Corinthians 6:15 Paul says, What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? Belial is the name Paul give to Satan. When we are a part of God’s kingdom and have experienced His light, we can not mix with the darkness of this world. This does not mean we cannot bring others to a loving relationship with God, but we no longer have anything in common with a fallen world.
