Praise, Relationship

God deserves our praise above anything else in our lives. Psalm 96:4 says, For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. We all have many gods in our lives; whether it’s money, career, relationships, or the like. When we put anything ahead of our relationship with God we make it a god in our lives. He is worthy of our praise above all else.

Relationship

God is worthy of our time and worship. He is the creator of us and the entire Universe. Psalm 95:6 says, Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. Nothing else matters than having a strong relationship with God. He loves us and wants to be in communion with us. We will never want Him more than He already wants us.

Praise, Relationship

If we are not in complete amazement at God’s awesomeness, then we are doing something wrong. In Psalm 47:2 the temple assistants (The Sons of Korah) make this statement, How awesome is the Lord Most High. The great King over all the earth! When we use the word “awesome” in our modern day language, we fail to grasp the magnitude of what the authors are trying to say. The Lord Most High’s awesomeness is truly meant in an overwhelming way we can only barely grasp. Because of this, He is beyond worth of our praise.

Comfort, Relationship

God is always with us no matter how far away we may feel or how far we may run from Him. In Psalm 139:7-8 David says, 7 Where can I go from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;  if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. There is no where we can go where God’s presence is not there. It is up to us to accept it and be comforted and guided by Him. When God feels far away, it is because of us, not Him. He never leaves our side.

Eternity, Relationship

Being popular, wealthy, or famous is not something to be envied. No matter how much money or notoriety someone has, it will all wither away in the end. Psalm 37:1-2 1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; 2 for like the grass they will soon wither. like green plants they will soon die away. What matters in this life are the things that last for eternity, not just in this lifetime. God asks us to live our lives differently than how the rest of the world lives their lives. Our value comes from our relationship with God and what we do to impact this world for all eternity.

Obedience, Relationship

God loves everyone equally. But unless we recognize His majesty, we do not place ourselves in a position where He can lead us according to His will for our lives. In Psalm 138:6 David says, Though the Lord is on high, he looks upon the lowly, but the proud he knows from afar. Those who are too proud to place God in the proper position of power and authority will miss out on God’s closeness.

Faith, Obedience, Relationship, Truth

Psalm 119 is the longest book of the Bible and it hold an immense amount of truths. Which is why we will break this chapter up over the next four days.

Relationship with God comes from spending time with Him in His word and in Prayer. And there is no better way to have God close to you that to have His words memorized. Psalm 119:11 says, I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Hidden (keeping) is a perfect way to keeping sin at bay. For this reason we should all be inspired to memorize scripture. But memorizing it alone will not deter sin if we do not put it to work in our lives. This is why we say God’s word is a “living” word. It should be a guide for every day of our lives.

Love, Relationship

Our accomplishments in this world make us no more or less important in God’s eyes. Proverbs 22:2 says, Rich and poor have this is common: The Lord is the Maker of them all. God created us all equally and loves us all just the same.

Faith, Obedience, Relationship, Trust

Fearing God is not a bad thing. It is respect and reverence for our creator and Father in Heaven. The fear of God is no different than the fear we had of our parents when we were little kids. While we did not always understand the rules, we followed them anyway because we knew they were meant to keep us safe. Proverbs 14:2 He whose walk is upright fears the Lord, but he whose ways are devious despises him. God wants obedience, but more importantly He wants us to be fulfilled in a way we can only find through walking with Him.

Relationship, Servant

Today we read the third and final letter written by John the Apostle. The letter was written to Gaius, a prominent Christian in one of the churches to encourage him in his Christian life and to commend him for his hospitality. At this time, church leaders traveled from town to town helping establish new congregations. They depended on the hospitality of fellow believers and Gaius was one of the ones who welcomed them. In 3 John 1:5 John says, Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you. It amazes me when I meet fellow believers that we immediately feel kinship with each other through the commonality of Christ in our lives. As believers we are all part of the same family.
