Forgiveness, Jesus, Salvation

As we begin chapter 26, we arrive at several chapters where Job speaks his final words to his friends. Job continues to maintain his innocence to his friends and stands with a clear conscience. In Job 27:5-6 it says, 5 I will never admit you are in the right; till I die, I will not deny my integrity. 6 I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live. Job is able to defend his integrity and maintain his innocence. We too are able to stand with a clear conscience because of the righteousness we can only receive from God. When Satan tries to remind us of our past mistakes and of our imperfection, we are able to stand on the purity we received from salvation through Jesus Christ. We do not need anything else. He is sufficient to give us the confidence we need.

2013 Day 256 – Job 16-18, Isaiah 1

Knowledge, Salvation

While we continue to read through Job, today we also begin reading the book of Isaiah. Isaiah is considered to be one of the greatest prophets in Jewish history. He wrote this book to call the nation of Judah back to being faithful to God. Isaiah also prophesies about the coming messiah and salvation through Him. Isaiah begins by bringing a message of divine judgement for both Judah and Israel. Sometimes God’s message and direction for our lives is not clear, but when God speaks directly to us, we must take the time to listen to Him because the consequences can be great.

2013 Day 235 – Ezra 5-7, Psalm 117

Salvation

Today we read the shortest chapter in the Bible. It is also the middle chapter of the Bible., Psalm 117, 1 Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. 2 For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.  Paul quotes from this Psalm in Romans 15:11. While God brought salvation for His people, Paul also wanted to show how God’s salvation is given to all people, no just the Jews.

Salvation

Jesus, as the Son of God, was rich beyond measure. However, He humbled Himself for our sake. Paul describes this in 2 Corinthians 8:9, For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. Christ became poor when He became human. But by becoming poor, He made us rich with eternal life and salvation from the consequences of our sin. Praise Him for that!

Grace, Mercy, Salvation

It is important for us as believers to remember the purpose of the Law in the Old Testament; to show us our need for salvation from our sin. Paul spells this out in 1 Corinthians 15:56, The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But then he goes on to show us the beauty of God’s grace through Christ’s sacrifice to us in verse 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. In the end, God gave us victory over our imperfection. Even the worst sinners have the opportunity to take part in God’s grace. We must never take it for granted that we are incapable of salvation without the Love of God and the gift he has given us through His grace and mercy.

Salvation, Truth

Today we begin book of 1 Corinthians, which was the first letter to the church in Corinth. Paul writes this letter to identify problems in the Corinthian church and to ultimately offer them solutions. It sounds like the church is beginning to lose sight of why it exists in the first place and Paul takes a moment in the first chapter, 13th verse to say, “Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? ” Paul did not want anyone to forget Christ was the reason for their salvation and that every believer was baptized in Christ’s name. We also have a tendency to forget why we do the things we do as believers. Do we go to church to hear a great speaker or great musicians? Or do we go to hear God’s word proclaimed in truth? When it comes to church, we should probably be more concerned with “what” is being said and done, and less concerned with“how”.

Peace, resurrection, Salvation

In today’s reading in Hosea we come across a verse Paul quotes in 1 Corinthians 15:55, which describes our resurrection from death.  Hosea 13:14 says, “I will deliver this people from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. Where, O death, are your plagues? Where, O grave, is your destruction?” (last few words in the verse omitted). Death does not have victory over us when God provides a savior. This is comforting news knowing that none of us will ever get out of this life alive. But there is peace in knowing the end of our earthly bodies does not signify the end of our lives in eternity. There is a lot of peace there.

Salvation

I do not have a lot to say about the today’s reading. The only thing I would encourage you with is to remember why each day’s reading is important. It is because it is part of the story. The story that leads to our Savior. Take each bit of what we read and remember the importance of it in relation to the big picture.

2013 Day 134 – What Are You Living Your Life For?

Hope, Obedience, Salvation

This video simply made me think. I’m 45 years old and the older I get, the more I think about eternity. The truth is that none of us make it out of this life alive. We have to be OK with knowing this life is temporary but the things we choose to spend our time on have eternal consequences.

Salvation

Romans 8:1 is such a powerful verse, Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Imagine if you were on death row and you heard these words? Well, that is exactly what Christ did for us on the cross. We are all justly condemned to death, but through Christ’s blood we are pardoned of our sin.
