Power, Salvation

I never really appreciated the book of Hebrews until I read it a few years ago completely through. It is such a fundamental book to our faith and it was written to explain the sufficiency and authority of Christ as He relates to God. One of the most powerful passages is found in the beginning in Hebrews 1:3, The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. There is no clearer picture of Christ’s relationship with God and what He provided for us. He sits at the right hand of God Himself. The other thing one of the notes in my Bible explained about the passage was it links God’s creative power with His saving power. The same hand that created the universe also saves the universe. That actually makes a lot of sense.

Believer, Jesus, Salvation

As I read today’s passages in Acts, I kept thinking to myself, “what has the modern church become, the Sadducees or the Pharisees?” I’m not thinking about their literal beliefs, but I’m comparing the quarreling we have internally as “Christians” when we get hung up on the mundane aspects of who we have become as a religion and forget to focus on Who made us as believers in the salvation we received through Jesus Christ. Every time we choose to focus on anything other than Jesus, we turn away from the reason Jesus came, died, and rose again in the first place. Let us not lose sight of our Savior and the freedom He has given to us. Not a freedom to sin, but a freedom to focus on Him and our true purpose in life which is to serve Him and draw others into relationship with Him.

Grace, Mercy, Redeemer, Salvation

This morning’s read was a tough one, but it is necessary to fully understand God’s grace. Without the full understanding of God’s law, it is difficult to grasp the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for our sins. This is not the last time we will read about the law. In fact, it will become far more tedious than today’s read, but I challenge you to read it with eyes that point back to God’s righteousness and the mercy He has on us in showing grace through the redeeming power of Jesus’ blood.

2012 Day 355 – Revelation 21

Power, Salvation, Trust

Today the passage that stood out to me was verse 6, He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.” The notes in my Bible says it best: Just as God finished creation and Jesus finished the work of redemption, so the Trinity will finish the entire plan of salvation by inviting the redeemed into the new creation. It seems almost impossible, but with God we know all things are possible and He will make it all happen one day.

Salvation

In today’s reading we see the final judgement from each of the seven angels. The one that stood out to me was the seventh angel in verse 17, The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” That last little phrase sounds very familiar. It is just like Christ’s final words on the cross.

Salvation

Verse 10 says, And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” When sin comes into our lives we try a multitude of ways to get rid of the guilt. We try being good, intellectual pursuits, and we even blame others. The only true way to salvation and freedom from the effects of our sin is through Jesus Christ. Whether its today or at the end of time, Jesus is the only way to find freedom from sin. Know that He loves us and wants to cleanse us from our sin.

Salvation

This single chapter book is briefly addressing evil and negative influences in the early church. The passage that stood out the most to me is verse 11, Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God. Let us be imitators of what is good so that we can be the righteous reflection of God that brings others close to Him.

Grace, Obedience, Salvation, Servant

Verse 14 says, So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. At first glance it almost seems to contradict what Paul talks about with salvation through grace and not works. The big difference in Peter’s view comes from his concentration on the Christian life and of service. Reading letters by both men gives us a complete picture of how we should live our lives. We should know we are saved by God’s grace and nothing else. We should also live our lives serving and taking care of others just as Christ commanded when he spoke to Peter in John 21:17, The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” If we love Jesus then we will serve just as He commanded us.

Grace, Relationship, Salvation

When I first read verse 10, it gave me pause because it seems to say works, and not God’s grace is what gives us salvation. It says, Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall. But it does not say that. It is simply confirming how our actions should reflect our salvation and relationship with God. It also implies that by our actions we should show the change that comes from a relationship with God.

Obedience, Salvation

In this chapter, after Paul talks about everything that had to be done for the atonement of sin prior to Christ’s sacrifice, he moves onto verse 14, How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! Christ is the complete answer for the atonement of sin. There is nothing I can do to make it any more perfect or complete. When guilt grips me because of my imperfection, I must remember that Christ is enough. He is able to help me overcome the sin that attempts to control me and I must continuously lean on Him to help me fight for obedience to Him.
