Grace, Obedience, Salvation

Because of salvation through Christ’s sacrifice we are free from the burden of the Law. However, while we are free from the constraints of legalism, sin will ultimately hurt you. In 1 Corinthians 6:12 Paul says “Everything is permissible for me” – but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me” – but I will not be mastered by anything. Immorality and addiction are both examples of sin we are forgiven of, but if we choose to allow them into our lives, they will ultimately harm us.

Grace, Mercy, Salvation

Whether we are believers or not, we are all the same. We are flawed human beings in need of mercy and grace. In 1 Corinthians 4:7 Paul reiterates this, For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not? Our salvation does not come from our own efforts, but from Christ. We truly have nothing to boast about ourselves. It is because of Christ’s sacrifice and God’s mercy and grace for each of us that we have eternal life.

Grace, Mercy, Salvation, Truth

After everything Christ had done and everything the disciples tried to do to bring the Jews into believing Christ was the Messiah and savior of the world, they still rejected the truth. In Acts 18:6 Paul says, But when the Jews opposed Paul and became abusive, he shook out his clothes in protest and said to them, “Your blood be on you own heads! I am clear of my responsibility. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” It is because the Jews thoroughly rejected Christ that Paul finally decided to fully concentrate on reaching the Gentile. It is because of this that the rest of the world found Jesus. The Roman Empire (aka Gentiles) became the perfect vehicle to spread the Gospel throughout the rest of the world. It may not have always been pretty, but it was effective and something we should all be thankful for because ultimately it reach us.

Love, Salvation

For those who were not born through the Israelite lineage, God provided a way for all to be saved through Christ. In Galatians 4:7 Paul says, So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir. Though we are adopted children, just like any adopted child, we have the right to the full inheritance. God loves us no matter how we became His children.

Salvation, Truth

Our world is full of false teaching. Whether it’s acceptance of things clearly condemned by God, or the belief that everyone goes to heaven as long as they are “good”. However, Paul clearly rejects all of these and goes as far as condemning them eternally. In this first chapter of Galatians, Paul says this twice, the second being in Galatians 1:9, As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! We know the truth. Let us not be persuaded or seduced into thinking the world has a better grasp of reality than our Father and Creator.

Grace, Salvation

After being relieved all the prisoners did not escape, the jailer asked Paul and Silas how he could be saved. In Acts 16: 31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved – you and your household.” Salvation is simple. There is nothing complicated about believing in Jesus and accepting His grace. We do not need to make things any harder than they need to be.

Grace, Salvation

Christ died to fulfill the law, not abolish it. But in the same vein, He freed us from the burden of salvation through the law. If we were still required to maintain the law as part of salvation, we would fail. When the religious leaders of that time tried to require believers to follow the law in order to attain salvation, Paul replied to them in Acts 15:10-11, 10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are. We are free from sin and from working for our salvation. That doesn’t mean we are free to sin, but we are free from the consequences of our sin nature.

2016 Day 114 – James 2

Crucifixion, Faith, Salvation, Servant

We do not need to do anything to receive salvation. Christ did it all through His crucifixion on the cross. So what is James trying to say in James 2:26? As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. He is not talking about salvation. He is talking about a changed and obedient life. Christ saves us from our imperfect lives and gives us the freedom to not be enslaved by our sin nature. If we do not take advantage of that freedom to act for the benefit of others, then what was the point of salvation? Freedom gives us the ability to choose a life fulfilled and happy through Christ. If we don’t take advantage of it, we are wasting the gift of salvation.

Eternity, Salvation

Today we read about Paul’s start to his ministry. Paul goes through a lot of explanation about how and why Jesus came to us. Paul also explains why the gospel was made available to the Gentiles and not just the Jews. In Acts 13:46 it says, Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: “We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourself worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.” God planned the light to come from the Jews, but the light spread to all people. Praise God for allowing the light to spread to each of us so we could have eternal life.

Eternity, Faith, Salvation, Trust

When Herod addressed the people about their quarreling, they called him a god and not a man. The results are described in Acts 12:22-23, 22 They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” 23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise  to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died. Pride is a terrible sin and God chose to punish Herod immediately. While God does not punish all sin in this lifetime, He will bring all to judgement. Praise God for He gives us a way out if we simply choose to take it.
