Servant

I love the heart behind this video. Instead of spending money on meaningless advertisements, they decided to spend money by creating some Christmas magic for a few of their customers. Such a great example of serving people in a way that impacts them the most.

2013 Day 334 – Francis Chan: Rethinking Church

Servant

For today’s reflection, I thought I would share a video by Francis Chan describing how he has changed the way he views church. While I don’t necessarily agree with his entire approach to church gatherings, I do think he brings up some interesting thoughts about the true purpose of church and why we should gather in the first place. At a minimum I hope it challenges you to think about the purpose of your church community and your mission.

Disciples, Servant

As we finish the book of Matthew today, I love the way Jesus finishes up His instruction to His disciples in Matthew 28:18-20 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” His words were true back then and they are true today. Let us not forget the true reason why we are on this earth.

Disciples, Servant

Today, as a break from our daily reading, my good friend Sarah shared this video for our reflection day. It’s about 20 minutes long, but it is well worth your time. This is such a good reminder of our purpose as believers. I would love to here your thoughts in the comments section after you listen to it.

Obedience, Reward, Servant, Trust

From today’s reading, Acts 20:24, However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me–the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace. Our lives are meant for the service of our King. Too often we feel our lives are worthless unless we are getting a lot out of it; whether its fun, recognition, or success. Paul’s example shows it is more important what we put into this life than what we get out of it. What is more important to you: what you get out of this life or what you put into it?

Compassion, Servant

I love the story of the Israelites defeating the Amelekites in battle. It is always interesting to me that Moses’ hands needed to be raised in order for the Israelites to win and I have wondered the significants of this. The notes in my Bible made a great point reminding me that we need to lift up our leaders. They are only human and cannot do it alone. Too often we expect perfection out of our leaders and assume they should be better than everyone else. The truth is, a good leader cannot do it alone. They need the help and support of those they lead. And, most importantly, they need our prayers. Whether they recognize it or not, they need our support.

Obedience, Sacrifice, Servant

If you know me, you know I’m a huge Francis Chan fan. For this week’s reflection day I decided to share one of my favorite videos. It’s only 4 minutes, 20 seconds long, but it’s a powerful video that illustrates our lives in the light of eternity and asks the question, “What are you living for?” I hope you enjoy it. Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments of this post.

Grace, Obedience, Salvation, Servant

Verse 14 says, So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. At first glance it almost seems to contradict what Paul talks about with salvation through grace and not works. The big difference in Peter’s view comes from his concentration on the Christian life and of service. Reading letters by both men gives us a complete picture of how we should live our lives. We should know we are saved by God’s grace and nothing else. We should also live our lives serving and taking care of others just as Christ commanded when he spoke to Peter in John 21:17, The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” If we love Jesus then we will serve just as He commanded us.

2012 Day 312 – 2 Timothy 2

Protection, Servant

The main point that jumped out to me this morning is found in verses 20-21, 20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. 21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. In these verses Paul is urging Timothy to be of noble use for Christ. He is asking him to not settle for less than what God is offering him. The same goes for us, God wants only wants what is best for us and want to use us as instruments for His will.

Obedience, Servant

The verse that stood out to me today was the only one that did not have a note directly associated with it in my Bible. So, I’m on my own in sharing my thoughts about verse 8, Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. There are a lot of things we can do to serve others and to serve God. However, if we do not do them with love then it doesn’t mean very much. Love matters in all things. Love changes the perspective for us in everything we do. It’s like the book my Bob Goff, “Love Does”, where he talks about love being the motivator behind everything. This one thing has the potential to change the way and frequency of following God’s command to serving others.
