2015 Day 360 – Mark 1

Faith, Healing, Power, Trust

Today we read what the fuss was all about with the birth of Jesus Christ. While no one knew Jesus was the Messiah at the time, there was very little uncertainty about His power and willingness to help the needy. Mark 1:34 sums it up, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. Jesus not only healed, but He was strategic about it. He knew that once word got out about His power and willingness to help, it would be nearly impossible to move about freely. Later on we read how difficult it was for Jesus to move about, but it was His compassion and love that drove Him to the people to love and heal them.

2015 Day 358 – Matthew 2

Miracles were a part of Jesus’ life from the very beginning. It all started with the Magi coming from the East. How did these men know the Christ was born? Did they even know He was the Messiah? But they showed up anyway through miraculous guidance. Then Herod wanted Jesus dead, but the Magi were warned in a dream not to go back to Herod in order to protect the future Savior of the World. Then Joseph was warned to take his family to Egypt to further protect Jesus from death. God protected the Messiah in miraculous ways and He did it for our benefit. Not just for the obvious reason of protecting our Savior, but also so we would know God’s hand was in it from the beginning. God loves us so much He is willing to move mountains on our behalf. Providing a way to eternal salvation was just the beginning.

Faith, Peace, Trust

This is one of the most telling chapters in the entire Bible confirming the true identity of Christ as the Messiah. When you look at the genealogy of Christ you see it. Matthew 1:17 says, Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ. While this is not the only proof (and there are many), it is one of the most interesting and special parts of the story. It paints a clear picture of God’s perfect plan. When we think our lives make no sense, remember God’s plan is always perfect and we are a part of that plan.

Protection, Trust

David wrote Psalm 17 while he was be persecuted by Saul. You can feel the desperation as he reaches out to God for deliverance. In Psalm 17:6 David says, I call on  you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer. One way or another, David would be delivered; even in death. In the end, we all know God delivered David from Saul’s persecution.  But David trusted in God for His will to be done. This is a powerful example to all of us.

Faith, Trust

In the midst of despair, David trusts in the Lord to deliver him and provide relief. In Psalm 13:5 David says, But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. Even in the middle of it, David knows God is able to deliver him. Let us never lose sight of God’s ability to deliver us from our own despair. We are never alone and we never have to face it alone because He is with us.

Faith, Trust

When we trust in God, we can face our problems head on because He is a just and righteous God. In Psalm 11:7 David says, For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face. When we are upright and faithful to God, we are able to look to God and know He will protect us from evil, even after death.

Faith, Trust

In today’s reading we see the author questioning where God is in times of trouble. It starts with with Psalm 10:1 Why, O Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? We all feel alone at times and it is OK to question where God is when things are not going well. But we all must continue to have faith that God will act when His time is right. It is not always in our timing, but it is in God’s perfect timing.

Faith, Trust

It is sometimes easy to forget that God was here even bore the earth was formed. We live within the confines of time and space, but God does not. Psalm 90:2 says, Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. God was here before the beginning of our history and He will continue to be here beyond what we can even comprehend. Nothing that is happening to us or around us is a surprise to God. Let us not fret about the little things and instead realize God has it all under control.

Of the three verses in today’s Psalm, verse 134:2 stood out to me, Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord. In all we do for the Lord, let us do it fully and with reverence to Him. By lift our hand to God, not as a public display, but as submission to Him, we fully give ourselves to God’s service.

Faith, Trust

God is the only thing that deserves our attention and respect when compared to anything else in our lives. Psalm 48:14 says, For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. When we take the time to listen to God’s guidance, we cannot go wrong. It is when we listen to our “feelings” that we can be lead down the wrong path. God is our true source of direction.
