Psalm 121

When we are at our lowest point, it’s easy to wonder where God is. Psalm 121:1-2 says, 1 I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. If we believe God created the heavens and the earth, then we must remember God is with us no matter the circumstances. Nothing is too big that God can not fix it.

Faith, Hope, Trust

If we truly know God is with us always, we should never walk in fear. Psalm 118:6 says, The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The first part of this verse states the obvious. But the last sentence shows us the practicality of what the author is saying. What can man do to me? It’s an honest question with an obvious answer: Nothing if God doesn’t allow it. And if God allows it, it is to fulfill His perfect plan, which He chose to include me in! What a privilege and honor it is to be included in God’s plan. Let us not take that lightly.

Psalm 110

Faith, Trust

Because of it’s clear references to the Messiah, this is one of the most quoted Psalms in the New Testament. Psalm 110:1 was quoted by Jesus in Matthew 22:41-45 and made it clear that David was referring to the Messiah, The Lord says to my Lord: ” Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” No matter the circumstance or how long they last, God is in control and his plan continues to be perfect. In the end, God will remove evil from this world and will take back control over evil influences. Trust in His plan and have faith in His commitment to protect and love us.

Psalm 109

In Psalm 109 David is basically venting to God. He is frustrated with the liars and slanderers. David pleads with God to live up to His name (according to His character) in Psalm 109:21, But you, O Sovereign Lord, deal well with me for your name’s sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me. Believe it or not, God is ok with our venting. He is not hurt or offended when we have had enough of the twisting and spinning justifications of this lost world. When we plead for God to act, He hears us. He will act according to His will, which means it may not be in our timing, but God does not ignore our pleas. Trust in Him and have faith in His perfect plan!

Faith, Hope, Love, Trust

My apologies for not posting the last few days, but I am finally back. Today we are in Psalm 105. While this Psalm is a bit longer than the average, it speaks in detail about the history of Israel in relation to their time of captivity in Egypt and how God delivered them. This Psalm uses the remembrance of God’s mighty miracles for Israel to encourage us to trust in God and keep close to Him in both good and bad times. Psalm 105:1 says, Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known among the nations what he has done. Because of God’s ability and desire to deliver us, we need to share of His blessings with others to encourage them to look to God in their time of need. Praise God for loving us and delivering us.

In Psalm 104 the author takes time to carefully give God the glory for all of creation. He begins with Psalm 104:1, Praise the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. With all God has done through all creation, isn’t it possible that He is able to do a great work in us as individuals? Trust God with the great and small things. If He cares about the smallest creature, He certainly cares for you.

Matthew 27:27-55 – Good Friday

Crucifixion, Hope, Love, Salvation, Trust, Truth

Today is Good Friday and I always wondered why we refer to this day as “Good” since it was the day Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross. While historians debate many things about our faith, there are three things all historians agree on: 1) Jesus Christ really existed; 2) Jesus Christ was baptized; and 3) Jesus Christ was crucified. Christ’s crucifixion was an agonizing and torturous death. Matthew 27:50 says, And when Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. This was a brutal death and His suffering is hard to imagine. But when we take time to think through what Christ’s crucifixion represents and the transformation it has caused to the course of each of our lives, we realize it really was a “Good” day. Today reminds us that Jesus took on the sin of the world and died because of it. And more importantly, it is “Good” because Sunday is coming.

Psalm 93

As humans it is hard to understand the concept of God being eternal; without beginning or end, but God is unchanging. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Psalm 93:2 says, Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. If we can get past the concept of eternity, we see our God who exists through the changes in our world and remains the same. Our comfort should exist in knowing He is not fearful of change, nor is He incapable of working through those changes in the world around us. God is in control and His plan is ultimately perfect.

Psalm 91

Protection, Relationship, Trust

When we trust in our Almighty God, we can rest in the fact that He can carry us through any danger or fear in our lives. In Psalm 91:1 the author says, He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This is a prefect picture of what our trust should look like. When we stay within God’s protection, which can only come from a true relationship with Him, His will deliver us no matter what may come in our path.

Psalm 88

Faith, Trust

Today’s reading in Psalm 88, the author is grieved. He is in despair and uses the whole psalm to ask God why He has chosen to not deliver him. Some people may view this type of reaction as a lack of faith, but in actuality it is a show of faith knowing we can call out to God and know He is able to deliver us. When we feel pain from our circumstances God is still there. True faith gives us the freedom to know what God is capable of regardless of whether or not He chooses to deliver us in our timing.
