Psalm 87

Faith, Trust

Psalm 87 talks of the city of Zion where we will all gather one day as believers. It is hard to think about a day and a place where we will all be safe in God’s care. For now, we can all rest assured God has a plan and it is perfect. We can find comfort He is using us daily to fulfill His plan. Praise be to God for choosing us.

Love, Protection, Trust

Most people look for comfort from other imperfect people, but God is the best source of comfort we can ask for. Psalm 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Ultimately, God is the one who loves us more than anyone ever will. He knows our every struggle and our every need and He is faithful to us implicitly.

Peace, Trust

Real peace can only come from God. When we try to find peace through our own efforts, we may find it, but it is always fleeting. Psalm 85:8 says, I will listen to what God the Lord will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints – but let them not return to folly. When we trust in God and listen to His guidance in our lives, we find true peace, and it is only through that ongoing trust that true peace remains.

Faith, Peace, Protection, Trust, Truth

The author in today’s reading in Psalm asks a beautifully rhetorical question in Psalm 77:13 Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God? In the time when this Psalm was written, and no less so today, there were and are many things placed in higher regard than our God. But there is nothing greater or more important to our lives than our Almighty God. Take some time to try to find anything more steadfast or true… you won’t find anything. Not our friends, not our family, or organizations; nothing.

Faith, Hope, Trust

We are not to fear attacks from others. God has the power to stop even the most powerful enemy in their tracks. Psalm 76:6 says, At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still. God is in control in every circumstance. Trust in Him and His will for your life. Trust that God has the big picture in His sight and has the perfect plan.

Trust

God is the ultimate judge and only He can decide who will be judged and the consequences of doing both good and evil. Psalm 75:7 says, But it is God who judges: He brings one down, He exalts another. Ultimate judgement from God will come and we must trust in God that it will fair and just.

Faith, Protection, Trust

Psalm 74 was believed to be written by Asaph who was a leader of one of the temple choirs or one of his descendants since it was most likely written after the fall of Jerusalem in 586 B.C. In this Psalm, the author pleads for God’s help to defend the people from the enemy. This is a great example for us to know it is ok for us to plead to God for help and to know He hears us. Psalm 74:12 says, But you, O God, are my king from of old; you bring salvation upon the earth. Trust in God and know He hears our requests. He will answer in His timing and according to His will.

Praise, Trust

When people speak against us, whether it is true or false testimony, it still hurts. David experienced this more than anyone in the Bible with Jesus being the only exception. Yet he trusted in God and found God to be his refuge. In Psalm 64:10 David encourages all of us with the following passage: Let the righteous rejoice in the Lord and take refuge in him; let all the upright in heart praise him! No matter the circumstance or who stands against us, know that the Lord stands with us and provides the shelter we all need when the world seems to be against us. Trust in God and know He is with us always and remember to praise Him for it always.

Faith, Protection, Trust

When David was hiding in the desert from his enemies, he longed for a friend he could trust. He found that trustworthy friend in his relationship with God. In Psalm 63:1 David says, O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in the dry and weary land where there is no water. When we find ourselves feeling all alone, remember God is always with us and will never leave us alone. May we always thirst for God as intensely as David did when he was all alone in the desert.

Faith, Protection, Trust

When we face trouble, we may be able to find shelter and rest in other distractions, but God is the only place we find eternal peace if we look to Him and trust in His perfect plan. David recognized this in Psalm 62:2, He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. There is no doubt about who alone David felt was his protector. Let this be an example to us when we face trouble. God will never leave us. We may lose focus on Him, but He will never lose focus on us.
