2016 Day 317 – Psalm 14

Faith, Hope, Trust

Those who do not know God and who fail to have a real relationship with Him have no hope. In Psalm 14:1 David says, The fool says in his heart, “There is not God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. Without God it is difficult to look at the struggles we all face and continue to have hope for our future. But through God we can all face the future knowing God is always by our sides.

Faith, Hope, Love, Trust

David begins this Psalm very much like many of us in times of trouble when we do not feel God’s presence. But David ends with Psalm 13:5 with trust and hope for deliverance from our loving God, But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. Do not wait until God delivers you before you praise Him. Use David as your example where He praised God knowing He would deliver him from his despair.

Deliverance, Power, Trust

Psalm 9 is a Psalm of praise to God who never ignores our cries for help. David begins the Psalm with the first verse by saying, I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. No matter how bleak it may seem because of our circumstances, God is always with us. Over and over again, God hears our cries and delivers us through His power and His love for us.

Love, Protection, Trust

In today’s Psalm, David is once again asking God to deliver justice to the wicked.  Psalm 7:9 says, O righteous God, who searches hearts and minds, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. God is not fooled by the wicked and He does not lack the will to protect the righteous. God is loving and kind, but He will not sit back and allow evil to go without judgement. It is OK for us to ask Him for intervention and protection from the evils of this world.

Love, Protection, Trust

Finding people we can trust is much easier said than done. But Proverbs 18:24 says: A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Though it may seem impossible, pray that God provides people in our lives we can trust and know they will be closer than our own family. God will use trusted companions to help shape us and lead us to live life according to God’s perfect plan for us.

Humility, Trust, Wisdom

Everything in our lives can be considered a learning experience if we approach it the right way. It is ok to fail and it is ok to acknowledge to God that we need Him because we are imperfect and lack wisdom. Proverbs 1:7 says, The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Only a fool would think they are ok without God’s influence and leading in their lives. Let us not be fools. Let us accept God’s wisdom and discipline to make us who we were created to be.

Faith, Salvation, Trust

The way we know our eternity is secure is through salvation that can only come through Christ Jesus. 1 John 5:12 says, He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. Once we have Christ living in us, we can rest assured of our salvation.

Obedience, Trust

As we finish this second letter from Paul to Timothy, Paul gives some final instructions starting with 2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction. Paul tells Timothy to “correct, rebuke, and encourage”. All three of these things are difficult to do, but if we want to grow closer to the Lord, we must be willing to do all three.

Love, Protection, Trust

In today’s reading, Paul begins with a very detailed warning to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:1-5: 1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. If we read this thoroughly, it reminds us of the world we live in today. Sadly, it is the same world we have always lived in. It is not meant to be perfect, but God is and He loves us and protects us just the same.

Faith, Obedience, Servant, Trust

Our faith in God should be reflected in the way we defend our faith to others. If we resort to arguments and scoring points, then we lack faith that God is working through us. In 2 Timothy 2:24 Paul warns: And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. There is no reason to quarrel with people about our faith. We know the truth and the truth will be revealed to others when it is God’s will and for His glory. It is not an attack on us when people reject Christ. We are simply an instrument willing to be used by God.
